Victor Osimhen NOT A Top Target For Man United, As They Focus On Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap.

The hunt for a new striker is intensifying as Manchester United gets ready for a significant summer reconstruction under manager Rúben Amorim. Victor Osimhen, Matheus Cunha, and Liam Delap are among the players being considered.

Amorim's start to life at Man United has not gone according to plan, with all hopes of salvaging any success this season resting on winning the Uefa Europa League.

Despite the poor run of form since his arrival, United are entering a new tactical era built around his trademark 3-4-3 system.

As the squad adapts to a structure focused on fluid front threes, pressing intensity, and positional interchange, one key piece of the puzzle is still missing: a central striker capable of leading the line effectively in this new setup.

They may also consider internal solutions, including selling off Rasmus Højlund, who arrived at Old Trafford from Atalanta and has not impressed in the forward line.

Man United have been linked with Osimhen for months. The Nigeria Super Eagles striker currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, remains one of Europe’s most sought-after goal threats. 

He was instrumental in Napoli’s Scudetto win during the 2023-24 season and is about to do the same in the Turkish league with Galatasaray.

He has been prolific this season with the Turkish club, 30 goals and 7 assists in 35 matches.

United were reportedly aiming to secure the 26-year-old  in a £40 million (€50m) deal due to his contract entering its final year.

It had been claimed that a tentative transfer agreement had been signed between the club and the player.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus and PSG are also monitoring the situation around the former Lille hitman.

Osimhen's hopes of moving to Old Trafford have been dashed by claims from the reliable transfer journalist David Ornstein, who says the Nigeria international is not on the agenda of the Red Devils this summer.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Ornstein confirmed United's stance on Osimhen:

“If Manchester United are to look at others, I’m assured it will not be Victor Osimhen,” Ornstein said. “Despite reports you might be reading, he is not on the agenda for United.”

“They will have other options because they might have to turn to them, or they could stick with internal solutions, such as a Rasmus Højlund, and focus on other positions,” Ornstein concluded.

Reports now suggest the Premier League giants have their sights majorly on Wolverhampton Wanderers Cunha, and Ipswich Town’s Delap as their next striker.

According to Sky Sports, Man United want to trigger Cunha’s £64 million release clause on June 1, with the Wolves forward reportedly open to the move.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has impressed in a transitional Wolves side, offering creative link-up play, relentless energy, and technical quality in the final third.

With Ipswich’s Premier League relegation looming, Liam Delap is attracting interest from the Red Devil's, thanks to a £30 million release clause.

The 21-year-old has featured for Manchester City, Stoke, Hull, and now Ipswich, and his physicality and work rate continue to stand out, scoring 12 goals in 34 Premier League appearances this season.

Chelsea is also showing interest in the England youth international.

United have also been linked with Viktor Gyokeres, but Amorim’s former protégé at Sporting CP appears to have little interest in joining his mentor at the Theatre of Dreams.
