Pep Guardiola's daughter Maria speaks out for the first time following her parents' divorce after being together for 30-years.

It was reported earlier this week that Guardiola and his wife Cristina Serra had split after three decades of being together, which caused a significant stir in the sports and media world.

The couple met in 1994, married in 2014 and have three children together.

According to the Sun, the couple separation comes after having a 'tense' dinner in Barcelona in October.

It happened that he City boss flew to Barcelona three months ago to meet his wife and the couple went out for dinner at the manager's favourite restaurant, Bodega Sepulveda, with onlookers saying the couple looked tense.

Guardiola held crisis talks with his wife shortly before he returned to the UK and signed a new two-year contract extension to his deal with the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, taking his stay to 2027.

He had been widely expected to quit the club after nine successful years.

According to reports, the family had already made up their minds that their time in England was coming to an end and that their new life was in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2019, Cristina Serra left England to head back to Barcelona with one of their children to manage her family fashion business, while Guardiola stayed to manage Man City.

Influential Spanish journalists Laura Fa and Lorenza Vazquez claimed that his decision was behind their marriage break-up.

The couple privately informed the news to their friends and family, although were maintaining a cordial relationship and had spent Christmas together with their three children before this revelation became public.

 

Guardiola's daughter Maria had given an interview to Vanity Fair magazine, which comes just as the end of her parents' marriage.

In the interview, the young influencer is seen talking about her parents and explains what her relationship with them has been like, together with the values they instilled in her.

"They tell me that the most important thing is to love and be loved" as a motto... Said the 24-year-old.

"Following my dad around the world to watch games created special memories and brought the family together. My mom is very elegant and even influenced the way my father dresses," explained Maria Guardiola, alluding to a characteristic of her parents.

They instilled in her an interest in fighting "social injustices," among other things, which has made her a staunch advocate for human rights in favour of the Palestinians.

"My parents raised me to understand the privilege of my circumstances and I have always been aware that many do not have access to the same opportunities." she added.

Pep Guardiola who is still experiencing the worst moment of his coaching career will be incharge of City's game away to Ipswich Town on Sunday evening.

The 54-year-old Spaniard remains focused on improving the Cityzens' Premier League position as they are currently eighth in the table. 

They have been handed a massive boost ahead of the game, with the news that talisman Erling Haaland has signed an extraordinary nine-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, which is the longest contract in the Premier League and one that keeps the striker at the club until 2034.
