OFFICIAL: Erik ten Hag SACKED As Man United Manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy To Take Charge On Interim Basis

Erik ten Hag has been sacked by Manchester United with immediate effect as exclusively revealed!

The 54-year-old Dutchman was reportedly summoned to a meeting at Carrington this morning with Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth where he was informed that it was over. That meeting was described as ‘respectful and dignified’..

Red Devils legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined Ten Hag's revamped backroom staff at the start of the season, along with former Go Ahead Eagles manager Rene Hake, will take over as the interim manager, with the rest of the staff remaining in position for now.

The arrival of Jim Ratcliffe as a minority stakeholder seemingly promised change at Old Trafford after only assuming 25 percent of the club's ownership, Ratcliffe and INEOS gained significant control over the football-related decisions.

Despite a surprise 2-1 win in the FA Cup final against Man City at the end of last season, it happened that Erik ten Hag's fate was pretty much sealed in the summer, as the newly United board openly had conversations with other candidates.

Ratcliffe and his INEOS team then decided to keep Ten Hag in his job and extend his contract until June 2026. It's tough for a manager to come back from being undermined to that degree.

Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel, were two experienced managers linked with the club in the summer, but now they have both taken national team jobs.

Though, the managerial change at this time of the season, maybe fully justified. Man United are currently 14th in the league table after finishing eighth last season, while they are 21st in the Europa League with three straight draws as well.

They have earned just 11 points from nine league games, they have just four wins from 13 games to start the new season.

Ten Hag last official engagement was in London, just as his first was.

It ended in a 2-1 defeat at West Ham, which is how it started, although he was only watching at Selhurst Park on 22 May when United were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace in Ralf Rangnick’s last game as interim boss.

As he has repeatedly reminded everyone only Pep Guardiola at Man City has done better than his two trophies win since the summer of 2022.

Van Nistelrooy, who played for United between 2002 and 2006, has a year of managerial experience with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. He left his role in 2023 after leading PSV to success in the Dutch cup.

He will presumably have every opportunity to prove he's worthy of the job on a permanent basis. He should benefit from the fact things can't possibly get much worse than they are right now.

His first game would be the Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

This will be the sixth time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the fifth time since Liverpool appointed Jürgen Klopp and the fourth time since Guardiola joined City the following year in 2016, Man United will once again be looking for a permanent manager to lead the team.

They have already started to assess options for their next permanent manager. 

Julian Nagelsmann, is well liked among the Man United board and an approach is expected to happen, other candidates like Ruben Amorim, Xavi Hernandez, Thomas Frank are aldo in conversations to the job at Old Trafford.
