FIFA BANS Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o From All Footballing Activities For Six-Months (Half A Year) Over Misconduct.

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president, Samuel Eto’o has been hit with a six-month ban from all footballing activities after violating FIFA’s disciplinary regulations, football’s governing body said.

The 43-year-old who has been president of FECAFOOT since 2021, now faces a challenging period. The federation has not yet commented on the ban.

The ban which is effective immediately, will prevent him from attending football matches involving Cameroon’s national teams, both men’s and women’s, across all various age groups during the suspension period.

The sanction comes after an incident during Cameroon’s U-20 Women’s World Cup round-of-16 match against Brazil, which they lost 3-1 after extra time on September 11, 2024, in Bogota, Colombia.

While the specifics of the incident have not been disclosed, FIFA stated that Eto’o’s actions breached disciplinary rules related to offensive behaviour and violations of fair play principles. 

According to FIFA, Eto’o‘s conduct during the match violated Articles 13 (Offensive Behaviour and Violation of the Principles of Fair Play) and 14 (Misconduct of Players and Officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the President of the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, with a six-month ban from attending matches of Cameroon’s representative teams for breaches of Articles 13 and 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” a FIFA statement reads.

Eto’o, a four-time African Footballer of the Year, enjoyed an illustrious playing career, featuring in four World Cups and winning the UEFA Champions League titles on four occasions with three different teams.

He is the second most-capped player in Cameroon’s history behind Rigobert Song.

Cameroon’s men next face Kenya in a key double-header qualification game for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in October.

Eto’o had chaired a meeting in Douala earlier on Monday to discuss preparations ahead of the visit of the Harambee Stars on 11 October.
