Chelsea WINS Big, As Cole Palmer And Enzo Maresca CLINCH The September 2024 Premier League Awards.

Chelsea have taken home two of the monthly Premier League awards for September, as Cole Palmer and Enzo Maresca have both won the Player and Manager of the Month awards respectively.

The Blues began the month with a draw at home to Crystal Palace but then won three league matches in a row, beating Bournemouth and West Ham away from home before they then eased to a thrilling 4-2 win over Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer scored five goal and one assist in four appearances, leading the Premier League for both goals and goal involvements last month.

Incredibly, four of his goals came in one incredible four-goal haul in 21 minutes against Brighton & Hove Albion, becoming the first player in history to net four times in the first half of a Premier League match.

In addition to that incredible display against Brighton, Palmer also produced an assist in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace and a goal in a 3-0 win at West Ham United.

This is the second time he would be winning the award having won it in April 2024, meaning he has claimed two of the last three available awards. Only Frank Lampard, with four, has won the award on more occasions for Chelsea than Palmer. 

The 22-year-old who was this week named the England's national team Player of the Year, had previously won the Premier League's Goal of the Month prize in August 2024 for his wonderful lob in the 6-2 demolition of Wolves.

Palmer succeed the last month winner Erling Haaland, as he tops an eight-man shortlist of Harvey Barnes, Luis Diaz, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ryan Gravenberch, Raul Jimenez, Dwight McNeil and Ollie Watkins who were also nominated for the POTM award.

The winner emerged through a public's votes on the EA SPORTS website were combined with those of a panel of football experts.

Having already started October with an assist in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, Palmer will look to add to his league-leading tally of 11 goal involvements this season when Chelsea return to Premier League action against Liverpool on Sunday 20 October.

On the other hand, Enzo Maresca has been named as September Manager of the Month.

The 44-year-old topped a five-man shortlist of managers that included Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Unai Emery (Aston Villa), Marco Silva (Fulham) and Arne Slot (Liverpool). 

Maresca wins the gong in only his second month as manager in the Premier League, as he led Chelsea through the month unbeaten, winning three matches and drawing the other. 

After a 1-1 draw at home with Crystal Palace, Maresca's team got back-to-back away wins against Bournemouth (1-0) and West Ham 3-0), before finishing the month with a 4-2 victory at home against Brighton (4-2).

Chelsea scored a competition-high nine goals across the month. 

Maresca told the league's website that his team's form is credit to everyone at the club and not just him.

"We had a very good month," he said. "We all need people around us to make things better. I'm very grateful to have all of them [his staff].

"We are always looking at new things and how we can improve from different football and different countries."

Maresca becomes the first Chelsea head coach to win the award since Thomas Tuchel, who claimed it in October 2021. 

He is the second winner of the MOTM award this season, with Brighton's Fabian Hurzeler taking the award in August.

Meanwhile, Jhon Duran wins September Goal of the Month award for his sensational match-winning strike in Aston Villa's dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Everton.

Duran came off the bench and scored a 76th-minute long-range screamer that completed a turnaround from 2-0 down at Villa Park. The goal was so good that it stunned his own team-mates, with both Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Martinez holding their heads in disbelief.

Remarkably, it was the third time in four Premier League matches that Duran had scored a game-winning goal as a substitute. 

After the goal, head coach Unai Emery said: "His potential is huge," while team-mate and fellow striker Ollie Watkins said: "That is what he's got in his locker, he has got a lot of ability. We have seen him score worldies before. If you back yourself to shoot from that far, why not?"

The 20-year-old Colombian wins the award after his goal topped a shortlist of eight of the best in September following votes from the public and a panel of experts.

He is the first Villa player to win the accolade since Danny Ings claimed the August 2021 award for his scissor-kick against Newcastle United.

Duran, who this week signed a new contract at Aston Villa until 2030, will hope to continue his impressive goalscoring season when Villa travel to Fulham on Saturday 19 October.

Manchester United's goalkeeper Andre Onana clinched the September 2024's Premier League Save of the Month award for his heroics against Crystal Palace. 

Onana dived low to his left to keep out Eddie Nketiah's long-range shot and then somehow recovered to keep out Ismaila Sarr's follow-up, jumping from the floor to his left to push a shot from inside the six-yard box out for a corner. 

Not only was it a stunning double save but it also helped the Red Devils to a goalless draw at Selhurst Park, giving Onana one of four clean sheets already this season, meaning he leads the race for the 2024/25 Golden Glove award.

It is the second time Onana has won the award, having also done so in April with an astonishing stop to deny Burnley's Lyle Foster.

The 28-year-old Cameroonian claims the prize after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of experts, topping a shortlist featuring six stunning stops by goalkeepers across the month.
