Rodri Won't Play Again For Man City This Season After Tearing His ACL Against Arsenal

Manchester City midfielder Rodri will miss the remainder of the season after tests this morning confirmed he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee during Sunday's 2-2 draw with Arsenal, per multiple reports. 

After Man City had took an early 1-0 lead against the Gunners through Erling Haaland's strike in the ninth minute, Rodri was forced from the field of play at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spaniard was attacking a corner, but went to ground under pressure from Thomas Partey.

There was immediate concern for the player, and TV cameras clocked his face as it looked serious while receiving treatment.

Riccardo Calafiori equalled the scoreline for Mikel Arteta's side in the 22nd minute, before defender Gabriel headed past Ederson from a corner by Bukayo Saka in the 45+1 minute to give the Gunners the lead.

Leandro Trossard was later sent off for a second yellow just before the half-time, as John Stones last minute goal was able to secure a point for the Cityzens.

The Ballon d'Or contender has only played 66 Premier League minutes this season.

Rodri, who has been a key player for both City and Spain, will undergo surgery in Barcelona and his absence will be a major blow to the team’s midfield strength. 

Manager Pep Guardiola and his City team, will now need to find a way to cover for Rodri’s absence, with Ilkay Gundogan and Mateo Kovacic likely to see more playing time in midfield. 

Despite starting the season well without Rodri, his long-term injury will test the depth of the squad and their ability to maintain their top performance levels. 

Man City next play host to Watford in the EFL third round on Tuesday night, before traveling to St. James' Park to play Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday noon.
