Thierry Henry STEPS-DOWN As France Under-21 Head Coach After Winning Silver Medal At Paris 2024 Olympics.

Thierry Henry has resigned from his role France's youth teams manager, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Monday.

Henry who is in-charge of the Olympic team, made up of under-23 players which also included three overage selections Alexandre Lacazette and Jean-Philippe Mateta, won the silver medal at the just concluded Paris 2024 Olympic games.

They took the lead in its group, after defeating the United States, Guinea and New Zealand, then they beat Argentina and Egypt on the way to the final in Paris only to be beaten 5-3 by Spain who won the gold medal in a dramatic encounter after extra time.

Henry has won four of his six games in charge of the Under-21s and has won eight of 11 in the Olympic squad.

Initially, the 47-year-old agreed to a two-year deal starting in 2023, with his contract set to expire after the European Under-21 Championship.

Henry, who won the 1998 World Cup with his country as a player, cited "personal reasons" as the motivation for his decision to step down in the FFF news release.

"I have to thank the FFF and Philippe Diallo [president of the FFF], who gave me this amazing opportunity," Henry said. 

"Winning a silver medal at the Olympics for my country will remain one of the proudest achievements of my life.

"I am incredibly grateful to the Federation, the players, the staff and the supporters who allowed me to live out a magical experience."

Henry played 123 games for the French team, scoring 51 goals and winning the World Cup when he played.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona legend has managed Monaco in Ligue 1 and the Montreal Impact in MLS previously, and he served as an assistant during Roberto Martínez's time in charge of Belgium's senior men's national team. 

The FFF is currently searching for a new coach to take charge ahead of the upcoming qualifiers for the Under-21 Euro 2025.
