PFA Awards 2023/24: Phil Foden WINS Player of Year, Cole Palmer Named Young Player.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has won the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) men's player of the year award, while Chelsea winger Cole Palmer was named young player of the year at the PFA's Awards dinner in Manchester on Tuesday.

This is the first time since the 2009-10 season that the both men's awards have gone to English players.

Wayne Rooney and James Milner were the players who scooped the player and young player of the year prizes respectively for that season.

Phil Foden has now completed an individual award double by being named as the 2024 Professional Football Association (PFA) Player's Player of the Year.

Foden, was instrumental in City winning a fourth consecutive Premier League titles, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists, and his achievements have now been recognised by his peers.

The 24-year-old became the youngest player to have won six league titles.

This is the first time the Stockport-born playmaker will receive the Player's Player of the Year trophy having previously won the PFA Young Player of the Year award twice in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

The England international, also won the 2023-24 Premier League player of the season award and was named the Football Writers' Association (FWA) footballer of the year three months ago.

Foden beat his City team-mates Erling Haaland, who won the award last year, and Rodri, as well as Chelsea's Palmer, Arsenal's Martin Odegaard and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins who were on the shortlist.

He becomes the fourth Man City player in five years to be voted as Player of the Year by his fellow professionals, with Kevin De Bruyne (2020, 2021) and Erling Haaland (2023) both winning the award in recent years.

"To win this award is something very special and it is one that I am very proud of and grateful for," said Foden.

"To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

"Last season was another very special one for everyone at the club, but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term."

On the other hand, after a stellar first season with Chelsea Cole Palmer has been named the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Palmer was recognised after high-scoring season where he scored 22 goals in 34 Premier League appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge following a £40 million ($52m) transfer from City last August.

In all competitions, he scored 27 goals and registered 15 assists for the Blues.

The 22-year-old was second only to City's Erling Haaland in the Premier League scoring charts with 22 goals and also scored more goals than any other Chelsea player.

His sensational form earned him a spot in the Gareth Southgate England squad for Euro 2024 and Palmer scored in the final which the Three Lions lost 2-1 to Spain in Berlin.

The Blues forward beat Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, former Crystal Palace player Michael Olise and Brighton's Joao Pedro to the young player prize.

For the Premier League team of the year, as voted for by players, Man City and Arsenal Players dominates the list.

Kyle Walker, Rodri, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden feature from the reigning champions, while David Raya, William Saliba, Gabriel, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard feature from the Gunners.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins are also included.
