Olympics: Tobi Amusan Misses Out on Women's 100m Hurdles Final In Paris 2024.

Tobi Amusan, Nigeria's medal hopeful in the women's 100m hurdles, was unable to qualify for the final of the event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday.

With Ese Brume finishing fifth in the women’s long jump, Team Nigeria’s chance of a medal in athletics rested on Amusan who filed out in lane six of the first heat of the event’s semi-final.

The 2022 world champion and despite being the world record holder, Amusan clocked a time of 12.55 seconds, finishing third in her heat and ninth overall in the semifinals which wasn't enough to secure an automatic qualification spot in the final.

The 27-year-old athlete had been in impressive form leading up to the Olympics, recording a season's best and world-leading time of 12.40 seconds (0.9) at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational in Kingston in May.

Amusan had earlier made a strong statement at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning her heat with a remarkable 12.49 seconds on Wednesday. However, she couldn't replicate that performance in Friday's semifinal, failing to improve her time.

The women’s 110m hurdles semi-finals was a dramatic spectacle, with only 0.01 seconds separating the top two finishers.

American Kendra Johnson clinched victory with a time of 12.34 seconds while defending Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico finished second in 12.35 seconds.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's 4x400m team has now been disqualified for a lane infringement.

The team qualified for the final after finishing 2nd in heat 2 with a Season's Best of 2:59.81.

Nigeria will no longer compete in the final of the men's 4x400m race at the ongoing Paris Olympics games.

These sad events has dashed Nigeria hopes of winning any medal at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
