OFFICIAL: Defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui Reunites With Erik ten Hag At Man United From Bayern Munich.

• Manchester United have signed the pair Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich in a move that could cost nearly £60m ($77m).

• The defenders reunite with Erik ten Hag, as both former Ajax players make the move from Bayern Munich to Old Trafford.

• Both will be available for their opening Premier League match against Fulham on Friday night. 

De Ligt has signed a five-year contract, and Mazraoui a four-year deal, both with the option to extend for a further year.

Both players joined the Bayern Munich ahead of the 2022/23 season and won one Bundesliga title and one German Supercup during their time in Munich. De Ligt came from Italian record champions Juventus, Mazraoui from Dutch record title winners Ajax.

United agreed to pay £38.5m plus £4.3m in add-ons for 25-year-old centre-back De Ligt, who was captain of Erik ten Hag's Ajax side that reached the 2019 Champions League semi-finals.

De Ligt and Mazraoui both played 17 times in their run to the semi-finals which saw them overcome the odds to beat Real Madrid and Juventus, before losing to Tottenham in dramatic circumstances.

De Ligt is considered an alternative cheaper option and has more experience ahead of Everton's defender  Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Toffees turned down to bids from United this summer as they stuck to their £70m valuation for the England international.

Speaking of his move, De Ligt said:  “As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such an historic club.

"In the conversations that followed, I was impressed by the vision that the football leadership set out, and the role they saw for me in it.

"Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me and I cannot wait to work with him again.

"I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I’m determined to continue that record at this special club.”

Morocco defender Mazraoui, joins for an initial fee of £12.8m, with a further £4.3m in potential add-ons.

The 26-year-old could immediately make his debut for the Red Devils at left-back position as a replacement for the injured Luke Shaw - who is expected to return after the first international break.

Mazraoui also worked with United manager Ten Hag at Ajax, and his arrival at Old Trafford was contingent on the exit of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who joined West Ham on Tuesday for £15m.

Mazraoui said: “It’s an incredible feeling to be a Manchester United player, and I cannot wait to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the red shirt.

"I know that I’m joining the club at an exciting time; everyone I’ve spoken to has the same ambition for us to win trophies together and I can feel the determination to achieve that.

"It is exciting to be reuniting with him [Ten Hag] as I enter the prime years of my career... Mazraoui added:

"I know what he expects from his players, and I will give everything to help the group be successful."

The Red Devils opened their account this summer by first signing former Lille defender Leny Yoro for a fee of £52million back in July, and that was quickly followed up by the signing of ex-Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, for £38m.

Followed by a deal with the Bundesliga club to sign De Ligt for £43m in total, and Mazraoui for a further £17m.

These four signings bring Man United's total summer spending to almost £150m so far.

Man United kick-off the new Premier League season when they host Fulham on Friday in the first game on Friday night.
