OFFICIAL: Aaron Wan-Bissaka Joins West Ham From Man United On A Seven-Year Contract.

West Ham United's busy summer transfer window continues as the club have announced the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United. 

The right-back was entering the last year of his contract at Old Trafford and now moves to London Stadium on a seven-year contract for an undisclosed fee believed to be £15 million.

Wan-Bissaka joins the Hammers after making 190 appearances, scoring two goals for the Red Devils across five seasons, during which he developed into one of the best one-on-one defenders in the Premier League, won the FA Cup, EFL Cup and started a UEFA Europa League final.

The 26-year-old Londoner, became Man United's fifth-most expensive transfer ever when he moved from Crystal Palace in June 2019 for a £45m fee, also making him, at the time, the sixth-most expensive defender ever, but he struggled to make an impact in recent years.

He came through the Crystal Palace Academy to play for the first-team and has been a Premier League regular since the age of 19, he was named the club's Player of the Year in his final season there.

Injury and illness ruled him out of much of the first half of the 2022/23 season and in 2023/24, manager Erik ten Hag often preferred to select Diogo Dalot in his starting line-up.

He is set to be replaced at Old Trafford by Noussair Mazraoui after Man Utd agreed a £17.2m deal with Bayern Munich for the Morocco international full-back, a player who West Ham had also expressed interest in.

United are also closing in on a deal for defender Matthijs de Ligt, who has also completed a medical.

Wan-Bissaka appeared 35 times in European competitions and been capped by England at Under-21 level. Now, he will continue his career in his home city.

 

West Ham confirms that Wan-Bissaka will take the No. 29 shirt at the club.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be back in London, and I’m excited for what’s coming. I was born here, so I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life, so to be back playing in this city means a lot to me.

“I’m happy to be here, am grateful for the warm welcome, and I am excited to be playing for the club and will give it my all.

“I can’t wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players, and push on from there. I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each others' backs through thick and thin, so being part of that and having that insurance helps a lot when you are surrounded by a good squad.”

 West Ham technical director Tim Steidten added: "I am delighted we've been able to get the deal to sign Aaron over the line. He's exactly the type of player we're looking to attract to this club in the prime years of his career.

"He's an incredibly talented defender who we rate very highly - superb in one-on-one situations. He's versatile too, which is clearly another positive. He's played over 170 Premier League games during his career - he knows the division inside-out.

"It's a really exciting time for us as we prepare for the start of the new season this weekend."

New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has been active in the transfer window as he looks to revitalise the squad following the departure of long-serving boss David Moyes.

The East Lond club, have already signed Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham from Sheffield United, Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund, Max Kilman from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United, Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice, and Guido Rodriguez as a free agent.

The Premier League transfer window closes on August 30 at 11pm, and West Ham host Aston Villa in their first league game on Saturday August 17.
