Italian Female Boxer Angela Carini Apologizes To Algeria's Imane Khelif After Boxing Bout Controversy.

Angela Carini apologises to Imane Khelif after their women’s 66kg bout at the Paris 2024 Olympics games.

The Italian female boxer abandoned the last 16 battle within 46 seconds after receiving two huge punches from Khelif Imane, which is uncommon in Olympic boxing.

It happened that Carini, was defeated by Khelif in just 46 seconds with a broken nose, as she broke down in tears after the fight and refused to shake hands with Khelif, citing severe pain from a nose injury as the reason for her decision to stop the match.

She threw her helmet onto the floor, abandoned the clash, and yelled, ‘This is unjust.’

Following the controversy surrounding Khelif and Lin Yu-ting, who were both disqualified from the 2023 World Boxing Championships, Olympics had allowed 25-year-old Algerian female Boxer, Imane Khelif who is being bullied online, facing criticism and harassment from people accusing her of being a man after defeating Angela Carini.

Despite being disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) for failing an unspecified gender eligibility test, both athletes are competing in the Paris Games under the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regulations.

The IOC has emphasized that Khelif and Lin comply with current competition eligibility rules, and the disqualification by the IBA was deemed arbitrary.

IOC spokesperson Mark Adams assured that all athletes, including Khelif and Lin, meet the necessary criteria for participation in the Olympic Games.

Imane Khelif has had 9 losses and 37 wins in her boxing career.

She is NOT a transgender as the rumour claims. She was born female, and has a high level of testosterone (XY chromosomes).

Khelif was defeated by Irish female Boxer, Kellie Harrington in the Quarter Finals of the 2020 Olympics, and was also defeated by Karina IIbragimova at the 2019 Women's World Boxing Championships.

In an interview with Italian daily Gazzetta, Angela Carini expressed regret over her actions and the ensuing controversy.

She stated that she was “sad for my opponent” and clarified that her refusal to shake hands was not intentional.

“All this controversy certainly made me sad, and I also felt sorry for my opponent, she had nothing to do with it and like me was only here to fight." Carini said. She reaffirmed that while she stood by her decision to stop the fight, the lack of a handshake was an emotional reaction rather than a deliberate slight.

“It was not intentional, in fact I apologize to her and to everyone else. I was angry, because my games had already gone up in smoke.

“I have nothing against Khelif and on the contrary if I happened to meet her again I would give her a hug.”

According to reports from iba.sports, International Boxing Association are set to award Angela Carini, who abandoned her fight against Imane Khelif, prize money equivalent to an Olympic champion President Umar Kremlev claimed.

I couldn’t look at her tears,’ President Kremlev said.

“I am not indifferent to such situations, and I can assure that we will protect each boxer. I do not understand why they kill women’s boxing. Only eligible athletes should compete in the ring for the sake of safety.”

Kremlev also said that IBA will support Sitora Turdibekova of Uzbekistan. Today Turdibekova unanimously lost to Lin Yu-ting from Chinese Taipei, who was also deemed ineligible by the IBA back in 2023.
