Rap Superstar, Drake Has Placed A $300,000 Bet For Canada To Defeat Argentina As He Aims A Cheeky Jibe On Lionel Messi.

Canadian rapper, Drake stands to pocket $2.88 million if Canada can spring an upset against Lionel Messi and Argentina in the semi-final of the 2024 Copa América at the MetLife Stadium on Tuesday, July at 1am (NGA).

He also aimed a cheeky jibe at eighth-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi.

Drake will be hoping that his summer can be turned around by Canada as the hip-hop star placed an incredible $300,000 bet on his home country to defeat the World champions Argentina.

Despite the Canadians being heavy underdogs going into this highly anticipated contest, it's not a surprise to see Drake who is from Toronto throw his support behind the team. 

Having already witnessed a 2-0 defeat to the Albiceleste in the opening game of the 2024 Copa America event on June 20. He has a six-figure sum riding on Jesse Marsch’s men making the final, with the Grammy Award-winning star joking that “this could get Messi”.

He placed the bet on Stake, sharing a screenshot on his Instagram story.

If Argentina eventually lose, he would receive an estimated payout of $2,880,000.00.

Drake's post about the bet included a cheeky caption saying, : “This could get Messi @stake.” with a Canadian flag emoji.

This is Canada's first appearance in the Copa América. The men's national team is seeking its first title in a major tournament since the North American Nations Cup in 1990.

Canada's run to the semifinal of a major international competition on U.S soil, has been a pleasant surprise in the tournament. American Head coach Jesse Marsch's team entered the Copa América 11th out of the 16 teams based on FIFA rankings.

They are now one game away from competing for the ultimate prize, and are already guaranteed a spot in the third-place play-off at the very least.

The defeat to Argentina in thier first group game, was only the second-ever meeting between the two countries. The first one was a 2010 friendly that Argentina won 5-0.

The Canucks went on to defeat Peru 1-0 before holding Chile to a stalemate in the Group A.

They then beat Venezuela 4-3 on penalties in the quarter-finals with the game ending 1-1 after normal time as well.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni announced Messi will be playing in the semifinal. The 37-year-old sat out the final game of group play against Peru on June 29 due to a thigh injury. He was back for the quarterfinal against Ecuador five days later and played all 90 minutes.
