OFFICIAL: Chelsea Announces The Appointment Of Enzo Maresca As New Manager To Replacement Pochettino.

• Chelsea have officially announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager on a five-year deal with the option for a sixth year.

• He would replace former boss Mauricio Pochettino who left the club by mutual consent at the end of last season.

The Italian will begin his new role on 1 July 2024 on a five-year contract, with the option of an additional year, as the board were deeply impressed by the discussions between both parties leading up to his appointment. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the West London club. 

Enzo’s staff will include former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javi Molina and Roberto Vitiello. Ben Roberts will join the staff as goalkeeper coach and has been appointed to the role of head of global goalkeeping.

Following the announcement, Chelsea’s ownership group said: "We are thrilled to welcome Enzo into the Chelsea family. We look forward to supporting him and the rest of the sporting team in fulfilling their potential and our expectations over the years to come.

"He is a highly gifted coach and leader that we are confident can help fulfill our vision and competitive goals for the Club."

After spells on the coaching staff of Ascoli, Sevilla and West Ham United, Enzo took charge of Manchester City's Elite Development Squad in August 2020 and guided them to the 2021 Premier League 2 title.

He had a spell in charge of Parma before returning to Man City in June 2022 as one of Pep Guardiola’s assistants that won the treble.

He took the helm at Leicester last summer and the 44-year-old guided the club to win the Championship, and oversaw promotion at the first attempt, leading the Foxes back to the Premier League after their relegation in 2022/23.

Maresca also expressed his delight to join the Blues: "To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity.

Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, added: "We are delighted to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach capable of delivering results with an exciting and identifiable style."

Maresca would meet his Chelsea players for the first time when they return for pre-season training in early July.

He and his squad will travel to the USA later that month for five friendlies, including a match where Maresca will face his former club Man City on 3 August.
