Mason Greenwood NAMED Getafe's Player of the 2023/24 Season.
- Mason Greenwood has been named Getafe's player of the season.
- He finished the campaign with eight goals and six assists in 33 appearances.
Greenwood posed with his award on Sunday as Getafe announced the news on social media, but his time at the club appears to be over due to Getafe not having the budget to sign him permanently from Manchester United.
He was sent to Spain on a season-long loan in the final hours of the 2023 summer transfer window after the Red Devils decided it would be best for him to continue his career away from Old Trafford following his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault.
The 22-year-old denied all allegations against him, as the Crown Prosecution Service subsequently dropped the charges in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew and new material came to light.
Greenwood settled into life quickly in Spain, and was named player of the month at Getafe in December and April.
Despite an impressive season in La Liga and winning Getafe's Player of the Year award, He now faces an uncertain future.
Greenwood is currently on a summer break after leaving Getafe following the end of his loan spell at the Spanish club.
He is expected to return to United in the coming weeks, unless a deal can be agreed to sell the forward.
The forward has one year remaining on his United contract, but looks likely to leave this summer as the club looks to ensure he doesn't leave for free in 2025.
Multiple European giants have shown interest in Greenwood, including Borussia Dortmund, Lazio, Atletico Madrid and Juventus as he could join Douglas Luiz at the Allianz Stadium after the midfielder completed his £42m move from Aston Villa on Sunday.
French club Marseille are also the latest club to explore a deal for the English man last week, leaving the striker to weigh up his options.
