José Mourinho Lands Two Jobs In Two Days, With UCL Final Coverage And A Return To The Dugout As New Fenerbahce Manager.

• Jose Mourinho is set to take on a new challenge having reportedly reached an agreement to become Fenerbahce's new manager.

• This would be the second job he would be landing in two days with Champions League final coverage, and a return to dugout.

• He has been out of work since Italian club side AS Roma sacked him in January and replaced him with Daniele De Rossi.

There were earlier reports of interest from Beşiktaş for Mourinho, and he recently held talks with Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah over their managerial vacancy.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Portuguese manager who is not yet in Istanbul, will become the new head coach of Fenerbahçe. Mourinho has already agreed to a two-year contract until June 2026 with the Istanbul club, with the option of an additional year and the announcement could be made as early as today.

Mourinho will be Ismail Kartal's replacement. Kartal signed on a one-year contract last June, marking his third time in the Fenerbahce dug out.

Last season, Fenerbahçe accumulated 99 points in the Turkish Super Lig and lost just once, but missed out on the title to fierce city rivals Galatasaray by three points, prompting the exit of Ismail Kartal, the head coach. They finished second and will enter the Champions League at the second qualifying round next season.

Mourinho was dismissed from his position at Roma midway through a disappointing season that left the Serie A side ninth in the league table.

He had been in charge for two-and-a-half years, joining the Italian giants six months after being shockingly sacked by Tottenham Hotspur.

The 61-year-old guided Roma to two sixth-place finishes in the league but enjoyed greater success in Europe.

After winning the Europa Conference League in 2022, Mourinho led them to the Europa League final in 2023, but lost on penalties to Sevilla. 

In a recent interview with CNN Romania, Mourinho claimed reaching two European finals with Roma was his greatest achievement in football.

“My biggest achievement, until now? Two European finals with Roma," Mourinho said.

“Impossible to do it, I don't think anybody will do it again.”

The interviewer appeared surprised by the manager’s answer, and then asked why he did not choose winning the Champions League with Inter Milan.

“That was easier,” said Mourinho. “Better players, a different club with different ambitions. More difficult was Roma.”

The iconic Portuguese boss, remains one of football's most famous and successful managers in history.

This will be the 10th club in five different countries Mourinho has managed after Benfica, União de Leiria, Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Man United, Tottenham, Roma, and now Fenerbahce.

His greatest success came at Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan and Real Madrid, where he won a combined eight domestic titles and two Champions Leagues.

He won 25 major honours across spells with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Man United and Roma alone.

Tottenham is the only place Mourinho failed to win a trophy in his managerial career and he was sacked days before a Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City in 2021.

He is the only manager in history to have won all three the European club competitions (Champions League, Europa League and the Conference League).
