Anthony Martial Confirms Man UNITED DEPARTURE After Nine Years With Emotional Message.
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has announced on Monday night, that he will depart the club after nine years when his contract expires at the end of June.
Martial arrived at Old Trafford as the most expensive teenager in the world from AS Monaco in 2015 for a reported £36m fee, potentially rising as high as £57.6m, but he never leaves to expectations.
He scored 90 goals, and 47 assists in 317 games for the Red Devils during his time with the club.
The Frenchman's exit, doesn't come as a surprise to some United fans, as the 28-year-old had struggled with injuries in recent seasons and had not been in the squad for months.
He was not in the team for the 2-1 FA Cup final victory against Man City on Saturday, and his last game for the club was a 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth on 9th December.
He had groin surgery in January and returned to training but never made a first-team squad again.
Martial's last cap for his country France was in 2021.
"It's with great emotion that I write to you today to say goodbye. After nine incredible years at the club, the time has come for me to turn a new page in my career," he wrote on Instagram.
"You have been an unwavering support, through the good times and the difficult. Your passion and loyalty have been a constant source of motivation for me.
"I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you've done for me. Your songs, your encouragement and your love for the club are memories that will remain engraved in my heart forever.
"I would also like to express my gratitude to all my team-mates, technical staff and all the members of the club I have met during my 9 years here. I am proud to have been able to share these experiences with you.
"Manchester United will always be in my heart. This club has left its mark on my career and offered me an incredible opportunity to play in front of you. I'm leaving to take on new challenges, I'll always be a Red Devil and I'll continue to follow the club's results with passion. Thank you again for everything, and see you soon. With all my affection, Anthony Martial."
Several Man United players wished Martial well in the replies to his Instagram post, including fellow forward Marcus Rashford, who said: "So many memories together. Stay blessed brother."
Martial won the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League at United - and had a loan spell with Spanish side Sevilla in the second-half of 2021/22 campaign.
He made just 19 appearances this season under Erik ten Hag, scoring twice. He has been linked with a move to Inter Milan.
Apart from Martial, his compatriot Raphael Varane will also leave Man United as stated in May upon the expiry of his contract.
