Barcelona Boss Xavi Hernandez LAMBASTS LaLiga For Not Having A Goal-Line Technology Following Defeat To Real Madrid.

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez lambasted La Liga for not using goal-line technology following his team's 3-2 loss in the El Clasico on Sunday left Real Madrid one win away from emerging champions.

LaLiga came under fire during the showdown at the Bernabeu after 16-year-old Lamine Yamal thought he had given the Catalans the lead with a flick from a corner.

Yamal's effort looked to have beaten Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin before the Ukrainian managed to palm the ball away from the goal, possibly after it had crossed the line.

It was an exciting and event-filled El Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu, as Jude Bellingham's late goal put Los Blancos one step closer to their 36th La Liga title.

The visitors took an early lead after Lunin misjudged a Raphina corner to nod home with the lead only lasting 12 minutes before  Vinicius Jr. converted home a spot kick after Lucas Vazquez had been fouled in the area by Pau Cubarsi. 

With the score tied at 1-1, Yamal skillfully flicked a corner towards goal with the score tied at 1-1, but Lunin was able to push the ball to safety, possibly after it had crossed the line.

This meant that Yamal's already impressive list of accomplishments could not include becoming the youngest El Clasico goalscorer ever. 

A sluggish start to the second half picked up steam, when Fermin Lopez bundled the ball into the net in the 69th minute, but Man of the Match Lucas Vazquez's well-executed finish for the home side four minutes later brought the clubs back to even 2-2.

Despite Barca's best efforts to find the crucial winner, Jude Bellingham scored the game's fifth and final goal in the 90+1 minute to send shockwaves through the Barça faithful and give Ancelotti's team the crucial three points and a chance to win the title. 

The Englishman Jude Bellingham appeared to have run out of since February 10 when he last found the net, after having such a great start to the season. 

The former Borussia Dortmund player clearly enjoyed his goal, as he celebrates with Lucas Vazquez, who was one of the most impressive players tonight.

Barcelona's poor night as made worse by the injury to De Jong just before the break, which is anticipated to keep the Dutchman out of the game for the remainder of the season.

As it stands, even the most optimistic Barcelona supporters right now would relinquish the title to their fiercest rivals, Real Madrid, who now lead the table by 11 points with just six games to play as they chase a record-extending 36th domestic crown. 

Xavi Hernandez who looks to end up empty handed this season which does appear to be his last as Barça boss, he was furious after the Yamal Lamine had a shot that Barcelona said crossed the line, but was not given as a goal.

The referee waved play on and the VAR couldn't confirm if it had indeed crossed the line, with only two angles available on the replay.

Xavi raged at more perceived refereeing injustice after Lamal's phantom goal and demands that the goal-line technology to be introduced.

"I’m not going to say anything about the referee because I will be banned if I do but it was there for all to see,’ he said. 

"We were the better team tonight and we deserved to win.

"The referee did not get a single decision right. It’s a disgrace and we should not remain silent. 

"I hoped the referee would either go unnoticed or get his decisions right but it was neither of those two things."

“It’s a disgrace,” added Xavi, complaining that the technology used in other top flights including the Premier League is not available in La Liga.

“If we want to be the best league in the world we have to advance in this sense, you have to put in the technology.”

Barca goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, concurred with his coach: "It's shameful for football, I don't have the words. There's so much money in this world and there's no money for what's most important."

LaLiga's stance on goal-line technology is different to those like the Premier League, who have the technology to sort such incidents in seconds with officials receiving a signal on their watch telling them whether the ball has crossed the line or not.

According to reports by Spanish outlet El Larguero, La Liga president Javier Tebas does not want to pay the £2.6 million the technology costs.

The Yamal's incident infuriated the fans, but Tebas promptly justified the lack of technology in his league.

The president of LaLiga published a number of pieces discussing instances in which goal-line technology has gone wrong, such as the infamous phantom goal from Sheffield United's 2020 Premier League match against Aston Villa.

Tebas wrote 'no comment' alongside the images on X, in a clear response the the criticism.

Xavi also added that was pleased with his side’s display on the night, but admits that the title race "is practically done."

"I am proud of the team, especially in the second half," Xavi explained.

"We tried. We were good, but mistakes have cost us the defeat.

“(Madrid) have had an extraordinary league, they have lost just one game, they’ve almost wrapped it up.

“I feel that with the game we played the normal thing would be that we would win.

“We competed very well, I think we deserved the three points.”
