{WATCH}; Rasmus Højlund Reacts To Scoring His First-Ever Premier League Goal For Man United.

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund reacts to scoring his first Premier League goal to secure a sensational 3-2 comeback victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday night (boxing day).

United had gone four game without scoring a single goal, a run stretching back to their 2-1 victory over Chelsea on December 6, which follows consecutive home losses 3-0 to Bournemouth, 1-0 to Bayern Munich, a 0-9 draw against Liverpool at Anfield, then a 2-0 defeat away to West Ham last weekend.

United hoped for a positive response against Unai Emery's side Aston Villa, but trailed 2-0 at the break following two quick fire goals from John McGinn in the 22nd minute, and Leander Dendoncker in the 26th minute.

They rallied and staged a dramatic comeback in the second half to turn the tie on its head.

Alejandro Garnacho scored twice in the 59th and 71st minute to level the scores before Hojlund swept home from a corner with eight minutes of normal time remaining to secure the vital three points for Erik ten Hag's men.

The winning goal sent an outpouring of emotions at Old Trafford ground, as Hojlund who joined United from Atalanta for an initial €75million in the summer is yet to score a goal in the Premier League despite the Danish forward soring five goals in six disappointing Champions League group stage matches for the Red Devils.

It took until his 15th Premier League appearance to open his account in the top flight.

The 20-year-old described himself as the “happiest man alive” following the goal.

“It’s been a while but I’m happy,” Hojlund told Amazon Prime. 

“I’m the happiest man alive right now. You can see the celebrations as well. We believed until the end and showed a lot of character as well.

“I’ve scored a couple in the Champions League but it’s been a while in the Premier League. Today we showed a lot of character. Happy to get the first one and hopefully I can build on that.”

 Argentine youngster Garnacho also added; “Too many people talk about the strikers in Manchester United and say we never score goals. 

“But today you see (Marcus) Rashford with the assist, Rasmus with the goal, so we’re happy… one of the best days of my life.”

Manager Erik ten Hag who has been under intense pressure said; “I’m so happy that the strikers scored. 

“That is what we needed. I know they are capable of (scoring). They are all good finishers. They have to show it every game. The really believing and the willingness to score goals — that’s when you score goals.”

The match was United’s first since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS confirmed their 25 per cent minority investment in United on Sunday in a move that will see it take control of the football operations at Old Trafford. Sir Dave Brailsford, director of sport at INEOS and former performance director at British Cycling, was in attendance at Old Trafford for United’s victory.

The win moves United up to sixth in the Premier League with 31 points, and Ten Hag’s side return to action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening at the City Ground.
