Luiz Diaz Left Out Of Liverpool's Squad Against Nottingham Forest Following The Kidnap Of His Parents.
Luiz Diaz has been left out of Liverpool's match-day squad for the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday following the kidnap of his parents in his native Colombia.
According to La Guajita, Diaz’s parents were abducted at gunpoint from a gas station by “assailants on motorcycles” on Saturday evening near their home in the town of Barrancas, in Colombia's Caribbean region, which led the police and military to mobilize their men to try and rescue them.
Colombian president Gustavo Petro said on social media that the 26-year-old's mother Cilenis Marlamda had been freed and found in Barrancas and she is now under the agency’s protection.
The player’s father Luis Manuel DÃaz is still being held captive.
“In operation padlock in Barrancas, Luis Diaz’s mother has been rescued. We are still searching for the father,” Petro said.
Soon after news first broke of the kidnapping late on Saturday night, the Colombia national team offered support to the forward and his family; "The Colombian Football Federation regrets the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Diaz are going through. From the FCF we express our solidarity with him and his entire family and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation."... A statement read.
Diaz have been informed by the Colombian authorities of the latest developments surrounding the incident, as they look to keep him abreast of the situation and try to find his father.
Liverpool on the other hand, believes that Diaz's welfare will continue to be their immediate priority at this time.
"It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity," the club said in a statement early on Sunday morning.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said it was a "worrying situation for all of us".
"We had to obviously make a late change because of the private situation involving Luis Diaz," Klopp said before the match.
"It was a pretty tough night. I have never had that before. It's a new experience I never needed."
