"He surprises us with his goals"... Ancelotti On Jude Bellingham's Brace Against Barcelona In The El Clasico.

Jude Bellingham continued his dream-like start to life at Real Madrid as he struck twice in the second half to stage a remarkable comeback for the Los Blancos, as they defeat Barcelona 2-1 in the first El Clasico of the season on Saturday.

The fixture which held at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic, saw Xavi’s team came into the El Clasico unbeaten and took the lead as early as the sixth minute.

Ilkay Gundogan, who always dreamed of scoring in a Clasico, chose the perfect time to score his first goal as a Barcelona player since arriving from Man City in the summer. 

The German midfielder gave Xavi’s side the lead just six minutes in after Aurelien Tchouameni inadvertently sent the perfect through-ball into his own box, and Gundogan beat a despairing David Alaba to fire home past Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal.

Missing Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Jules Kounde from the starting XI, a tenacious Barca side had plenty of chances in the first half with Fermin Lopez hitting the woodwork.

It was a game with lots of aggression but few chances, especially in the first half, the visitors did not particularly improve immediately after the break, with Barcelona close to doubling their lead.

Inigo Martinez also hit the woodwork with a header shortly after the break, Kepa then forced into action to deny Ronald Araujo with the rebound, but Jude Bellingham made them pay for those missed opportunities with 20 minutes remaining in his Clasico debut.

The game took a dramatic turn, favouring Real Madrid, as the introduction of Camavinga changed the game.

Bellingham saved Ancelotti after a forgettable first 60 minutes and an approach that would have been roundly criticized had the game ended in defeat.

Moments after Tchouameni had hit the woodwork from range, Bellingham received the ball outside the penalty area and hammered an out swinging shot under Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s top hand to equalise 1-1 in the 68th minute.

And just when the game seemed destined for a draw, Luka Modric accidentally fed an approaching Bellingham in the box who fired home for victory from point-blank range in the 92nd minutes.

The goal sink a determined Barcelona who were better for most of the game, as the match finished 2-1.

The result moves Real Madrid top of La Liga with 28 points from 11 games, level on points with Girona and four points above Barcelona, who are third.

After the game, Xavi claimed that his team deserved a result.

“We dominated 60 minutes, but this is football. We need five or six chances to score and they, with two or three, score two goals. It’s the difference.

“We lacked effectiveness. What we proposed went well, we were calm, patient… Maybe I’m exaggerating, but the feeling I have from the bench is that we deserved to win,” Xavi said.

Speaking about Bellingham’s display, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said at his post-match press conference: “We are surprised by the amount of goals by Bellingham, especially with his level and his effectiveness. He comes from the second line. Today, he surprised with his shot with a great goal from the front line. He is incredibly extraordinary.”

Commenting on Bellingham not celebrating after scoring the first goal, Ancelotti added: “He looks like a seasoned veteran; his attitude is very good, it’s clear that the objective was to win; the equaliser turned it around for us.”
