Man United Left-back Luke Shaw Set To Be Out Of Action For An Extended Period Due To A Muscle Injury.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is set to be out of action for an extended period of time after suffering a muscle injury, the club announced.

This comes as a very huge blow to Man United, and for manager Erik ten Hag, as Shaw has been a regular starter in ten Hag XI, featuring for 90 minutes in the Red Devils opening first two games of the new season.

The 28-year-old, has developed into a key player in ten Hag's system, making 27 appearances last season. 

United are still assessing the full extent of the England's international injury, who could miss England's games against Ukraine and Scotland next month.

The club, in a brief statement on Thursday, confirmed the report.

“Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has sustained an injury which will rule him out of forthcoming games.

“The muscle issue is still being assessed,” the club said.

It remains to be seen if the club will attempt to sign cover before the end of the transfer window.

The news of Shaw's injury came from The Athletic on the same day United announced that Brandon Williams would join Championship side Ipswich Town on loan.

Back-up option Tyrell Malacia has also been injured prior to pre-season, and the Netherlands international is yet to return to training.

Man United are also currently without £55million midfielder Mason Mount who will miss the two games before the international break after suffering an issue against Tottenham.

Former captain Harry Maguire also sat out the Spurs defeat due to injury, along with, Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo.

Diogo Dalot has played on the left in the past but it is a problem Ten Hag can do without as he looks to navigate his way through United's unconvincing start to the season.

The Red Devils managed to narrowly beat Wolves 1-0 on the opening weekend of the Premier League season but were torn apart by a 2-0 devastating defeat at Tottenham last Saturday. 

They prepare to host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in their next fixture, and the club then face tricky fixtures against Arsenal and Brighton.
