Mykhaylo Mudryk Reacts To Scoring His First Goal For Chelsea.

Chelsea winger, Mykhaylo Mudryk has expressed his delight after scoring his first goal for the club.

Following a 5-0 demolition of Welsh minnows Wrexham a few days prior, Chelsea played a strong Brighton & Hove Albion side in Philadelphia, United States in the early hours of Sunday morning in an all-Premier League affair.

The West Londoners fell behind as Brighton opened the scoring, thanks to a goal from Danny Welbeck in the 13th minute, but new signing Christopher Nkunku soon levelled six minutes later bringing the scoreline at 1-1 at the break.

Chelsea returned for the second half, and snatched hold of the match putting themselves well in front.

The scores was tied until Brighton's defender Jan Paul van Hecke was sent off on the hour mark, picking up his second yellow and left the Seagulls a man down for the entirety of the match.

Mudryk then restored the Blues' lead in the 65th minute of the match with a powerful volleyed effort, before Conor Gallagher grabbed a third, and Nicolas Jackson raced through on goal to add a fourth all in the space of 11 minutes.

Pochettino's charges suffered a late scare shortly after and nearly let their comfortable lead slip off their hands after Brighton got one back via a Joao Pedro penalty and Deniz Undav consolation goal made it 4-3 at stoppage time.

Mudryk’s strike which was the pick of the bunch, stated that he has been practicing the shots in training, which paid off against Brighton.

The Ukrainian, who failed to net in 17 appearances last season following his £88.5million January switch from Shakhtar Donetsk, looked overjoyed with his goal.

In truth, though, it was always going to be difficult for Mudryk to hit the ground running mid-season in a dressing room overfilled and under-motivated under Graham Potter, and then caretaker boss Frank Lampard.

Speaking to Premier League productions, Mudryk said: “I enjoyed that one! When I shot, I didn’t think about anything, I just practiced this stuff on the training pitch a lot and this came from training.”

On his linkup with Jackson, the 22-year-old added: “Just imagine that that is our first game together!”

With Mauricio Pochettino's arrival as new manager, the Blues have at least made space in the dressing room, waving goodbye to a total of 16 players so far this summer, and welcoming just four new signings.

Pochettino added that he feels it was important for the youngster to get on the scoresheet irrespective of the match only being a friendly.

Asked about his forwards all netting, the Argentine said: "Of course for Jackson, for Mudryk, I think it’s important to score. For Nkunku also.

"I think attacking players need to score and they need to build their confidence and their trust in themselves and always it’s important to score goals.

"And then of course we are going to try to improve because I think today we maybe had a little bit more capacity to stay calm where we can create more chances and score more goals.

"But I think in all the areas where we need to work we are going to be focused on working, there is still time, we need to believe and to trust in the process to arrive at the first Premier League game in the best condition."
