William Saliba Agrees To Arsenal New Contract Amids Interest From Rival Clubs.

Arsenal defender William Saliba have come to a decision on his future amid interest from rival clubs like PSG.

After a year of negotiations, Saliba and Arsenal have agreed in principle a new four-year contract with the Gunners, which will keep him at the Emirates stadium until 2027.

The Frenchman’s previous deal was set to expire in 12 months (2024), leaving Arsenal at risk of losing him on a free next summer if they refuse to sell him for a fee now.

But Gunners fans no longer have to fear that this might be his last season, as he is now set to add another three years onto his stay in north London.

According to the Sun, It is understood that the contract, which will run to 2027 with the possibility of an option for a further 12 months, will be worth around £200,000-per-week.

That is considerably more than Arsenal were hoping to pay Saliba, whose current salary is only £40,000-a-week.

An announcement over the new agreement is expected in the coming days.

Saliba was an outstanding performer, putting up series of impressive performances which showed why the Gunners paid Saint-Etienne £27million to sign him in the summer of 2019.

He returned to the Emirates after 18 months away on loan – first at Nice and then at Marseille. He immediately became a starter for Mikel Arteta’s side, breaking into the first team in the 2022-23 season.

The 22-year-old, proved just how vital he is to Arteta’s set-up when his injury against Sporting Lisbon in March, saw him miss the final 11 games of the season and de-rail Arsenal’s title bid.

That was the start of Arsenal’s collapse in the title race, and they eventually allowed Manchester City to pip them and win the Premier League with a couple of games to spare.

He has not been included in the French squad for their forthcoming Euro qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece.

Having already renewed terms with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Magalhães and Mohamed Elneny this season. This follows renewals for Eddie Nketiah, Folarin Balogun and Emile Smith Rowe last summer.

Talks for Ben White and captain Martin Odegaard are understood to be in the works.

The club are also putting the final touches to a new deal for Reiss Nelson, who is out of contract at the end of this month but is now set to stay at the Emirates.

Arteta wants to get his squad sorted as quickly as possible this summer ahead of the club’s long-awaited return to the Champions League.

They are building toward being regular title challengers but there are still no guarantees after just one season of fighting it out at the top.

The Gunners are ready to open the bidding for West Ham skipper Declan Rice with an offer in the region of a club record £90million and are also looking to further strengthen in midfield and in defence.
