Croatia Captain Luka Modric Agrees Contract Extension With Real Madrid Until 2024.

 Luka Modric has signed a new one-year contract extension which will keep him at Real Madrid until June 2024.

The Croatia midfielder, whose contract had been set to expire at the Bernabeu, rejected a multi-million dollar offer from Saudi Arabia because he still feels he has the strength to be important under Carlo Ancelotti and with his national team.

Modric, 37, has made 488 appearances for Real, winning 20 titles in total at the Santiago Bernabeu, including three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey's and the Champions League five times since arriving from Tottenham in 2012.

The playmaker, also won the Ballon d'Or in 2018 as Croatia reached the World Cup final.

Modric recently led Croatia national team, to finish second in the Nations League, where they lost via penalty shootout to Spain in the final, and has not yet announced whether he will retire from international football, as was rumoured, or if he will continue until the 2024 European Championship next summer.

Following an announcement of his new contract in the Spanish capital, Modric wrote "Home Sweet Home," on Twitter.

A statement from Real Madrid on Monday read: “Real Madrid and Luka Modric have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which remains linked to the club until June 30, 2024.”

Modric now turning 38 in September, joins fellow veteran Toni Kroos in committing to Real Madrid for another 12-months. Dani Ceballos and Nacho Fernandez, also extended their contracts with the club this summer.

The 14-time European champions, have already completed the high-profile addition of England international Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund for 100 million euros ($109m) this summer to add further competition for places in their midfield next season.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti also has Aurélien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde to call upon.
