Brighton and Argentine Midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister Set For Liverpool Medical.

 Alexis Mac Allister has been given permission to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to Liverpool, with the club reaching an agreement with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Liverpool are hopeful of signing Mac Allister this week after negotiations over for the Argentine World Cup winner switch to Anfield have been ongoing since April.

Mac Allister had signed a new contract with Brighton last October, extending a deal that was due to expire this summer but now runs until the summer of 2025, with an option for an extra 12 months.

He has a release clause of between £45m and £55m in his contract, and Liverpool are expected to pay around £45 million and make him their first signing in what looks set to be a busy summer at Anfield.

The 24-year-old has reportedly agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Liverpool, and now a deal has been struck with his club.

He is set to rebuild the midfield following the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita after their contracts expired, and Arthur Melo returning to Juventus at the end of his loan deal.

They were priced out of a move for Borussia Dortmund's England teenager Jude Bellingham, who is a target for Real Madrid.

Mac Allister joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019 but spent the rest of that season with the Argentinian club, before spending the first half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Boca Juniors.

He finally moved to the Amex Stadium in January 2020 and went on to play 112 times for Brighton, scoring 20 goals and claiming nine assists.

He further enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022/23, scoring 12 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions as he became a key part of Roberto De Zerbi's impressive team.

Brighton finished in sixth place, just one place behind Liverpool in the Premier League and will play in Europe for the first time in their 122-year history.

Mac Allister has been capped 16 times by Argentina  national team, and had a commendable performance in the Argentina's midfield during the World Cup in November and December, starting six games, and scored in a 2-0 win against Poland in the group stages, as Lionel Scaloni's team won the tournament in Qatar against a sensational France team in the final.

He is not set to under medical tests which are set for the next 24 hours before traveling to link up with the Argentine team.

He will report to the AXA Training Centre for pre-season training in July, with the midfielder tipped to take the No. 10 shirt last worn by Sadio Mane.
