Alex Iwobi Honoured As Everton Players' Player of the Season After a Club-high Eight Assists

Alex Iwobi has been honoured with the Everton Players’ Player of the Season award following his remarkable performance throughout the season.

Iwobi who continued his impressive form from the previous season, played a crucial role in different positions on the field to help the Toffees secure their Premier League status on the final day of the season following a 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

It is the first time Iwobi will win an award with the Tofees following his arrival from Arsenal in 2019.

The 27-year-old recorded an impressive tally, providing a Club-high of eight assists which is the highest among all Everton players. Additionally, the Nigerian international contributed two goals in 41 appearances across all competitions during the 2022/23 season.

Iwobi’s presence was felt throughout the season as he started in every Premier League match for Everton, with only three exceptions against Newcastle United (73′), Aston Villa (70′), and Nottingham Forest (83′).

Although Everton has extended a contract offer that would bind Iwobi to the club for another four seasons, reports suggest that he has yet to make a decision regarding the contract. 

The Merseyside club has faced struggles with form and consistency in recent seasons and narrowly escaped relegation from the topflight for three consecutive years.

Meanwhile, In addition to the Players’ Player of the Season accolade, Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford received his second consecutive Player of the Season award.

Pickford's vital contributions across the term were once again recognised by supporters, with the England No.1 garnering 42.3 per cent of the overall vote to scoop his third Player of the Season award, having first being bestowed the honour in 2017/18.

He made 124 saves in the Premier League in total (third-highest) and regularly captained the Toffees in the absence of teammate Coleman.

Elsewhere, McNeil convincingly won Everton's Young Player of the Season with 72.5 per cent of the fan poll following an impressive maiden season in royal blue.

No Everton player managed to register more than McNeil's 10 goal involvements (seven goals, three assists).
