João Felix Sent Packing To Atletico Madrid By Chelsea New Boss Mauricio Pochettino.

João Felix is set to return to his parent club, Atletico Madrid , after his short loan spell at Chelsea has ended with no fresh deal between the parties on the horizon.

This comes after Mauricio Pochettino who was officially confirmed as the new Chelsea manager on Monday come to a decision regarding Joao Felix's future.

Pochettino does not want Felix to be part of his squad next season, and has informed the West London club he does not want to make the loan arrangement permanent.

Felix joined the Blues on a short-term loan deal during the January transfer window for a £11million fee from Spanish club Atletico Madrid. 

But he struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League at first, that he was sent off on his Chelsea debut against Fulham in January, missing the next three league games.

He bounced back and showed flashes of brilliance, and one of the better attacking options during his short stay despite Chelsea suffering a tough and miserable season.

He scored four times in 16 league appearances in his time at Stamford Bridge, including a fine solo effort against Manchester United at Old Trafford last week.

His last match wearing Chelsea colours was in the 1-1 draw at home against Newcastle in the last Premier League match of the season.

The 23-year-old had recently indicated he would be keen to extend his stay at Chelsea after the season ended, however unfortunately for the forward his new boss has other ideas for him.

 "These four or five months, I love it... Felix said.

"I don’t know yet my future. But these four, five months, I loved it. It’s a top club, everyone in the club was very good to me. My team-mates unbelievable. I really like to be here."

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo  announced that their club-record signing will be returning to Los Rojiblancos at the end of the season.

The 75-year-old stated that the Blues have informed him that their new Argentine tactician is not interested in retaining the forward's services.

“The truth is that I can’t tell you the plan with Joao, he will return here... Cerezo told Spanish outlet AS.

“The news that we received yesterday is that the new manager doesn’t count on him at Chelsea. We don’t have anything planned, Joao is an Atletico player for now.”

Felix only signed a new long-term deal for Atletico earlier this year and has his eyes set on Champions League football next season after the club finished third in La Liga behind Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He has scored 34 goals in 131 appearances in all competitions for Atletico, and helped them to win the 2020-21 La Liga title.

Though he remains one of the brightest talents on the market right now and it will surely only be a matter of time before Atletico receive a bid for their star.

On the other hand, new boss Pochettino has a big job on his hands clearing out players this summer, and  doesn’t want the club to splash the big fee £113m Atletico paid to Benfica on Felix on 2019.

The 51-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain takes charge of a bloated, 32-man first-team squad that underperformed prior to his arrival.

There is too much uncertainty in the Chelsea frontline with players needing to leave before more additions can be made, especially considering that Romelu Lukaku is set to return from Inter Milan, and have another player similar in style already on the way in to potential add yet another option in the central areas.

Christopher Nkunku is the man set to join up with the Blues after his season at RB Leipzig is finished. 

The Frenchman, despite injuries, finished as the top scorer in Bundesliga this year and likes to occupy similar spaces off a striker. His £52m deal is yet to be announced but is simply not far away from being official.

Chelsea finished below the bottom half of the table (12th place), and will not be playing in any of the European competition next season.
