Frank Lampard Reveals Mason Mount Time At Chelsea Could Be Up, With Man United A Likely Destination.

Chelsea's interim manager Frank Lampard has admitted Mason Mount is in a position where he could be leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Lampard is a big fan of the Englishman having brought him to Derby County during his time at Pride Park. However, the interim boss hinted the relationship between Mount and Chelsea may be coming towards the end.

Mount who has been missing out of action since February with a pelvis injury, is out of contract in 2024 and has rejected the offer of a new long-term deal at the club that has been his home for 18 years.

He has been the subject of mass speculation after it emerged he was unhappy with his wage compared to other senior players at Stamford Bridge.

Negotiations are ongoing between all parties over an improved contract, with incoming Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to work with Mount in his squad for next season, meaning there could be a late twist in the tale.

 

However, this may still depend on both parties agreeing a new long-term deal, with negotiations having been ongoing since last summer.

The club could refuse to sell him but risk losing him for free the following season if he does not sign a new contract. So they would likely want to cash in on the midfielder, and are expected to demand between £60m to £70m.

 

As it continues to looks increasingly likely that Mount is destined to exit the West London club this summer, several top Premier League sides are interested in signing the England international.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all interested signing the 24-year-old, who has scored 33 goals in 195 games for the Blues since making his first-team debut in 2019, while Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is also thought to be keeping tabs on his situation at Stamford Bridge, knowing the player well from his days as Chelsea manager.

Further reports suggested that Mount, would favour a move to Old Trafford, and talks are expected between both Chelsea and Man United in due course.

Liverpool were initially thought to be in pole position for the player's signature, but their growing pursuit of Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister could see them lose out.

The other clubs interested in Mount are said to be 'aware' of his preference to move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are also in the market for midfield recruits this summer, with the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred both rumoured with Old Trafford exits. There are no signs of Marcel Sabitzer extending his stay at the club after arriving on loan from Bayern.

Speaking in the build-up of Chelsea’s Premier League 4-1 defeat away to United on Wednesday, caretaker boss Lampard was asked if the Mount situation is beginning to feel like a lost cause for the Blues.

“I don’t know,” Lampard said. “That’s not my answer to make. That’s between Mason and the club.

“I know he’s held in high regard at the club and I know the club are trying to what they can to make him stay.

“But I know also with Mason I never want to stand here and talk about what a player should do because you don’t see it all from their own eyes, about what’s going, how they feel on the pitch, what the future is for them.

“I think in the old days it would be, ‘Why are you leaving the club? You shouldn’t. In the modern day players move on.

“It’s just a shame where we’ve got into the situation where it’s happening maybe now.”

Mount was ruled out of the match at Old Trafford and is struggling to be fit after surgery on a pubic bone injury that saw him being left out of Gareth Southgate's England squad on Wednesday.

He could say his goodbye to Chelsea when they host Newcastle in the final game of the season on Sunday, as the players will do a traditional end-of-season appreciation after the match.
