David De Gea Has Won The Golden Glove Award for the 2022-23 Season After Man United 2-0 Win Against Wolves.

Manchester United's David De Gea, is now guaranteed to at least share the Premier League Golden Glove this season. 

He kept his 16th clean sheet of the season in Saturday's 2-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League.

De Gea and Man United secured the very much needed three points as they beat Julen Lopetegui's side at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ goals came through Anthony Martial who scored in the first half after being found in the box by Antony.

Alejandro Garnacho who came on from the bench after recovering from an injury, scored the second for United to eventually put the result beyond doubt in second half injury time.

The sensational Argentine youngster got on the end of a pass from Bruno Fernandes and embarked on a brilliant run. 

He cleverly ignored Wout Weghorst’s calls for a pass before firing it beyond Daniel Bentley.

The win ensured that manager Erik Ten Hag now boasts the most victories of any United boss in their debut season in charge of the club. The victory was United's 39th win in all competitions this campaign, including the FA Cup semi-final win over Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties, with United winning 20 games in the Premier League this season.

United now have a gap of four points above fifth place Liverpool. They remain fourth but are level on points with Newcastle United, with the Magpies above them in the table owing to a superior goal difference.

De Gea had previously won the Golden Glove on one occasion in 2017-18, when he registered 18 clean sheets for Man United.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech and ex-Man City shot-stoppers Joe Hart have each won the prize on four occasions.

But for De Gea to claim the accolade outright and not share it with anyone else this season, The former Spanish international, needs just one more clean sheet. With games against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham left to play. 

De Gea's nearest competitors who can only match his achievement and not beat it anymore are, are Liverpool's Alisson, Newcastle's Nick Pope, and Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale. The trio all have 13 clean sheets this season and, with all four teams now having three games to go this season.

 

Despite being the most criticized players by a section of some Man United supporters this season, saying he does not fit the ten Hag's style of play.

This season, he has struggled however, with more and more mistakes creeping into his game, including in last weekend's 1-0 defeat away to West Ham, making 34 league starts.

The 32-year-old current deal of £375,000-a-week expires at the end of the season with the option of a one year add-on, meaning he could leave on a free transfer this summer.

He is reportedly closing in on agreeing a fresh contract to extend his stay at the club, but there will be no guarantees of regular game time, as the club are also keen to bring in another first-choice shot-stopper.

De Gea joined Man United in June 2011 from Spanish club Atletico Madrid for £18 million a then British record fee for a goalkeeper to replace their retired goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

He has so far won one Premier League title, as well as two EFL Cups and one Europa League and FA Cup apiece, racking up a total of 540 appearances between the sticks, making him a modern United great.
