Valentin Castellanos Scores All FOUR Goals In Girona's 4-2 Win Over Real Madrid In The La Liga.

Valentin "Taty" Castellanos was on fire as he scores all four goals in Girona's shocking 4-2 victory against Real Madrid at the Estadi Montilivi on Tuesday night.

Girona stunned the reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid in a wild and unimaginable result. 

Real were without first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois through gastroenteritis and striker Karim Benzema with a leg injury.

Los Blancos began the encounter in control, battering Girona in the opening stages, winning four corners and registering five shots on goal inside 10 minutes.

But Girona didn't relent, and went on to produce a famous performance in front of their own fans at the Montilivi stadium, as they took full advantage of their chances on goal.

The host were clinical in the first two chances they had and Castellanos' brace gave them the lead. 

First it was a fine cross by left-back Miguel Gutiérrez that found Castellanos free inside the box, and the striker headed home the opener in the 12th minute.

The 24-year-old Argentine then caught Eder Militao on the bounce, then raced onto a long ball in the 24th minute before slotting past Real's goalkeeper Andriy Lunin with a right footed shot from the centre of the box to make it 2-0.

Real who had now been punished for their laziness at the back, went in search of a response, as Valverde finds Marco Asensio at the edge of the box and the Spaniard's cross was finally met at the far post by an unmarked Vinicius in the 34th minute, the brilliant Brazilian headed past Paulo Gazzaniga from close range, and the visitors cut the deficit on the scoreboard. 

Carlo Ancelotti's men failed to pull a comeback, as less than a minute into the second half, Castellanos completed a stunning hat-trick, courtesy of Yan Cuoto's searching cross which found the striker unmarked inside the box.

Castellanos who is on loan to Girona from New York City, both sister clubs of Manchester City, wasn't done on the night. The number nine grabbed a fourth just after the hour mark (62 mins), latching on to Rodrigo Riquelme's deflected effort from distance with a powerful header.

The Argentine only touched the ball 15 times, with as many goals as passes attempted, before being replaced in the 71st minute. He has now scored 11 La Liga goals this season.

Castellanos becomes the first player in over 75 years to score four goals in a La Liga game against Real Madrid since December 1947, when Esteban Echaverria netted five for Real Oviedo against Madrid.

Substitute Lucas Vasquez netted Real Madrid's second goal five minutes from time after some fine footwork from Vinicius, dribbling past Santi Bueno and feeds Vaaquez, but it was a little consolation.

The result represents a huge blow for Real in their domestic ambitions, showing just why they're not in contention this season.

The La Liga title appears to be out of Los Blancos' reach now, they are 11 points behind leaders Barcelona, having played a game more. 

Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger who looked lazy and lacklustre at the back tonight, will simply have to do better as they prepare to play Man City in the Champions League semi-final first leg in two weeks.

 

Girona, meanwhile, are 11th in the table and eight points clear of the relegation zone, with eight matches to play.
