Chelsea Duo Reece James And Mason Mount Ruled OUT For The Remainder Of The Season: Lampard

Chelsea interim boss Frank Lampard says that both Reece James and Mason Mount are set to miss the rest of the Premier League season with injury troubles.

The pair have struggled with setbacks throughout the season so far, but it seems unlikely that they'll feature in the final seven games.

James has been ruled out after a scan on a hamstring problem, while Mount has a pelvic injury.

"Reece James will be unavailable for the rest of the season, Mason Mount the same," Lampard told the media.

"Reece had a hamstring injury in the midweek game," added Lampard. "He got through it but then had a scan and he's out.

"Mason has been carrying a pelvic injury for a while. It predates myself and he has been trying typically but he will have minor surgery, then a four-week recovery.

"He Mount might make the last match but that's unlikely, which is obviously disappointing for us."

This comes as a huge blow to the Blues, who are looking to end the season on a strong note after a very difficult few months at the club when it comes to results. 

Lampard, who was appointed as caretaker manager earlier this month to replace the sacked Graham Potter until the end of the season, has lost all four games of his second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

A 1-0 defeat at Wolves, 2-0 home and away defeat against Real Madrid, and a 2-1 loss at home to Brighton.

Asked whether he expects to be in charge for the remaining games, former midfielder Lampard who is Chelsea all-time leading goalscorer said the club has "big difficulties"; "I wouldn't expect anything in football, but we have come in to a club with big difficulties, with not a lot of time.

"There are a lot of factors as to the four games I have been here. The team and club have been struggling for a while. We are here to help but things won't change in a short time."

The Blues are looking to return to winning ways against Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, but the double blow was also met with another as Kai Havertz is also set to miss the game.

They are currently 11th in the Premier League table and their season is effectively over after being earlier knocked out of both domestic competitions, and were also knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals last week.

The club hierarchy are in advanced talks with former Southampton, Tottenham and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino to take charge before the end of the season.

There is simply no doubt the Argentine is a top coach with excellent man-management skills. It cannot be denied that he is one of the standout candidates and options on paper for the current Chelsea vacancy as he closes in on a return to English football.
