Victor Osimhen Shines Again, As Napoli Advance To Their First-Ever Quarter-Finals In The UCL.

Napoli have made it to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history following a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen found the back of the net twice, scoring in either sides of the halves to ensure that there was no slip-ups in Naples and help his team secure a straightforward, and deserved 5-0 aggregate win.

Napoli came into the round-of-16 second leg encounter at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday night having won 2-0 in the first leg away at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt Germany three weeks ago, with goals courtesy of Osimhen and Giovanni di Lorenzo.

There was violent clashes with the police in the Italian city of Naples during the build up of second leg game as ticketless Frankfurt fans descended on the city for a key Champions League match which they had been banned from attending, but those troubles stayed outside the field of play.

Eintracht Frankfurt were without suspended France forward Randal Kolo Muani following his sending off in the first leg.

Though the visitors started the game a strong side as they had the first effort after Rafael Santos Borre headed off target in the 10th minute but from there the Partenopei took charge.

Both Osimhen and his electric strike-partner Khvicha Kvaratskelia could have given Napoli the lead inside 20 minutes, but Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp did brilliantly on both occasions to still keep his side in the game. 

The breakthrough came on the stroke of half-time (45+2 mins) when Matteo Politano dug out a cross from the right and Osimhen found unmarked, powered a towering header past the German goalie Kevin Trapp who has had a decent game.

At the break, the tie looked all but settled with Frankfurt being 3-0 down on aggregate to the current runaway Serie A leaders.  

Napoli returned for the other half, and were able to show more of the attacking flair that has brought them such success this season and in the 53rd minute after a good cut-back from Di Lorenzo down the right, an unmarked Osimhen again was waiting inside the six-yard box as he stretched at the far post with a simple finish.

The goal was Napoli's 24th in this season's Champions League, taking them past Benfica as the competition's top scorers, and Osimhen scoring three goals over the two legs. 

Napoli were out of sight, as Djibril Sow fouled Piotr Zielinski with a clumsy challenge in the box, and referee Anthony Taylor did not hesitate to point to the spot. 

The Polish midfielder Zielinsk picked himself up, and calmly dispatched the 64th-minute spot kick to make it 3-0 to Napoli on the night and 5-0 on aggregate. 

The results means that Oliver Glasner's side head out of the competition, with Luciano Spalletti's inform team completing the joint-largest aggregate win by an Italian side in the Champions League knockout stages to join their other Serie A rivals Inter and AC Milan in the last-8.

Red-hot Victor Osimhen who is worth the hype of a World-class striker was named the Man of the Match, after spearheaded yet another ruthless Napoli attack, before being greeted with a standing ovation when he was substituted late on. 

The Nigerian has now scored three goals in two knockout stage matches, making him the first player in Napoli's history to score in both matches of a European knock-out round. It's now 23 goals in 28 games across all competitions this season.

"We want to enjoy the moment and look ahead. It's a great win, we re-wrote the history of this club," Osimhen said after the game.

"We keep dreaming, we don't have limits. We follow our coach and look ahead."

Napoli are close to securing their first Serie A title in over three decades with a commanding 18-points lead, and they already have a place in the upcoming Friday's draw for the last eight with a real chance of competing for top prize in European football.

None of the remaining seven teams will want to face possibly the continent's most exciting team in the quarter-final.

Not long after that draw is made, the Partenopei will travel to Torino on Sunday to try and extend their lead at the Serie A summit even further.
