OFFICIAL: Tottenham SACKS Antonio Conte As Manager After 16-Months In Charge.

Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways by mutual consent on Sunday night, he’s no longer the club's manager after 16-months in charge.

Conte’s contract was due to expire at the end of the current season, following his arrival at the club in November 2021 which he had initially turned down in the summer.

The Italian manager signed 18-month contract with the North London club, replacing former boss Nuno Espirito Santo who was sacked in November 2021, spending only four months on his job after succeeding Jose Mourinho.

Conte delivered Spurs Champions League football and was backed in the transfer market, albeit not to the extent he would have liked.

He failed in cup competitions and, off the field, reportedly suffered the tragic loss of three close friends, as well having to undergo gallbladder surgery himself.

The 53-year-old's relationship with the club then moved beyond repair when he made an outburst and expressed his frustrations following the 3-3 draw at Southampton on March 18 before the international break which was his last game in charge.

Conte branded his players "selfish" and not putting their hearts into games, as he also criticised the club's culture over the past 20 years.

"I'm not used to seeing this type of situation," he added. "I see a lot of selfish players and I don't see a team."

He pointed out that the club’s trophy drought was not due to any particular manager but rather a club-wide issue.

Chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement but a the club's website: 

“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”

Antonio Conte joins Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo on the list of managers who have tried and failed to bring Glory, Glory to Tottenham Hotspur in the last four years.

Spurs are currently fourth at the time of Conte's sacking, but that position is very much under threat given all of Newcastle United, Liverpool and Brighton behind them have multiple games in hand.

Following the departure of Conte, Cristian Stellini will manage Tottenham untill the end of the season. Ryan Mason will also be assistant.

Tottenham return to action in their next match against relegation-threatened Everton side in the Premier League. The Toffees welcomes the London club to Goodison Park on Monday night, April 3.
