Bayern Munich Appoint Thomas Tuchel As New Manager, After Firing Julian Nagelsmann.

Thomas Tuchel has officially been appointed FC Bayern head coach. 

The 49-year-old has signed a contract with the German record champions until 30 June 2025.

Bayern Munich further explained the decision of why they sacked the coaching wonder kid Julian Nagelsmann as manager and replaced him with ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

According to BILD, club chiefs were left feeling Bayern were at risk of missing out on winning a treble.

Nagelsmann was left ‘completely surprised’ by the decision, which he was informed about on Thursday evening.

The club’s CEO, Oliver Kahn, has said the Bundesliga champions needed to go in a different direction and had to dismiss the 35-year-old.

In a statement on Friday, Kahn pointed to the fact that Bayern have played less attractive football since football resumed following the World Cup in Qatar.

"When we signed Julian Nagelsmann in the summer of 2021, we were convinced we would work with him on a long-term basis - and that was the goal of all of us right up to the end.

"But now we have come to the conclusion that the quality in our squad despite the Bundesliga title last year has come to the fore less and less often.

"After the World Cup we have played less successfully and less attractively,” Kahn said.

"The big fluctuations in performance have cast doubt on our goals for this season, but also our goals for the future.

"That is why we have acted now. Personally and on behalf of Bayern, I would like to thank Julian and his coaching team, and wish everyone the best of luck for the future."

 The German side have won the past 10 Bundesliga titles and sit second in the table this season, one point behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.

They beat Paris St-Germain to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, where they will face Premier League champions Manchester City.

Nagelsmann spent less than two years in the Allianz Arena hot-seat having arrived in the summer of July 2021 from Red Bull Leipzig in a five-year deal.

The 35-year-old won the Bundesliga title by eight points after his first season in charge, as well as successive German Super Cups in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

3 losses in 37 matches for Bayern this season and a 100% record in the Champions League, but the 2-1 defeat by Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday left them with just five wins from their past 10 league games.

Assistant coaches Dino Toppmoller, Benjamin Gluck and Xaver Zembrod have also left the club.

Nagelsmann is open to talks with Tottenham, Hotspur who are widely expected to part ways with Antonio Conte at the end of the season.

Thomas Tuchel speaking following his appointment said;

"Things went quickly. The timing was surprising, I didn't expect it and there was no contact beforehand. I assumed that I would continue my career abroad!.

"I accepted quickly! FC Bayern DNA is all about winning so we can win all the titles this season, I’m sure.

"In both England and Paris, they rate Bayern extremely highly. Nobody wants to play against Bayern Munich.

"The size, the strength of the club is undisputed."

His first match will come as soon as April 1, when Bayern meet Dortmund, the club that Tuchel led from 2015-2017 before he left for PSG.

"There is no bigger challenge than starting my time here with a game against Dortmund. It is the biggest game in German football. The upcoming game even has an added element to it, given the current state of the league table."

"Borussia Dortmund are on a fantastic run of form. That won't stop us from going into the challenge with excitement and anticipation, though."

Tuchel had been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in September under the new ownership of Todd Boehly.

He won the Champions League with Chelsea in May 2021 - one of three trophies won in 20 months at Stamford Bridge - and was voted World Coach of the Year following that campaign.

Bayern's players are already aware that Tuchel will be their new manager when they return from the international break.
