Victor Osimhen Can't Stop Scoring As Napoli Trash Juventus 5-1 In The Serie A.

Napoli humiliates Juventus 5-1 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Friday night in their bid for a first Serie A title since 1990.

This was depicted as attack vs defence battle, and the former most definitely came out on top, as the leading scorers demolished a side that had kept eight consecutive clean sheets.

The standout game of the weekend in Serie A came early, as two sides occupied the top two positions in the Serie A table entering the weekend's game.

Napoli, who remain top of the standings, returned to winning ways by beating Sampdoria comfortably last weekend.

It was the sort of dominant performance they needed after a sub-par display at San Siro against Inter Milan in their first match after the World Cup break.

The Nigeria's Super Eagles star, headed in a rebound effort after Wojciech Szczesny had parried Kvicha Kvaratskhelia volley from 12 yards to score his 11th Serie A goal in 14 games this season.

Osimhen then made an assist for his side’s second goal after he intelligently rolled the ball across from Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to sweep home from 10 yards in the 39th minute to extend the lead for the host.

No players in the division have as many goal involvements as their dangerous duo of Osimhen (12) and Kvaratskhelia (11) before the game.

Both players combined again to wreak the Juventus defence apart in the first half to establish a 2-1 half-time lead as Angel Di Maria pulled one back for the visitors.

The Argentine halved the deficit with a sublime strike inside the box following a mix up in the Napoli defence which gave Allegri's men some hope going into the break.

Amir Rrahmani restored the hosts' two-goal advantage 10 minutes into the second-half assisted by Kvaratskhelia.

Osimhen then headed home from a cross from Kvaratskhelia to score his second on the night and made it 4-1.

It was Osimhen's 12th goal in Serie A which keeps him well out in front in the goal charts four ahead of Lautaro Martinez, Marko Arnautovic and M’Bala Nzola.

Eljif Elmas added a fifth to complete the 5-1 humiliation of The Old Lady in the 72nd minute and seal what was a truly memorable win.

The victory was Napoli's tenth successive home win, as they move 10 points clear, increasing their fans’ hopes of a first Scudetto in over three decades.

Champions Milan can cut the gap between them and the leaders back to seven points with a win at Lecce on Saturday.

Juventus conceded five goals in a game in the competition for the first time since May 1993.

Massimiliano Allegri's side had only conceded seven league goals in 17 matches this season, despite a dismal start to the season, but the defeat demotes Juve to third behind AC Milan on goal difference.

Only Cagliari in 1966-67 have kept more clean sheets at this stage of any Serie A season than Juventus have in this campaign, as Allegri's side have kept 12 clean sheets after just 17 games.

In the last 15 Serie A seasons, only on one occasion has the side with the best defensive record not won the Scudetto, and Juventus have let in only seven goals all season, six fewer than the next best, league-leaders Napoli.

Allegri will now need to put tonight's game behind him as they now focus on their next Serie A test, a tough home game against Atalanta on Sunday, January 22. 

Osimhen further thanked Juventus for ‘a good fight’ after the game but insists ‘the road is too long’ for Napoli to talk about the Scudetto now.

“It was a fantastic night, Forza Napoli always!” he told reporters.

“Congratulations to the team, big respect to Juventus for the fight, we needed this more. I am happy for the result and happy to contribute to the team with two goals and an assist. We want to build on this momentum.

“I always say we have a great squad with quality players and of course we cannot shy away from the quality players Juventus possess. It was a good fight, I am glad we came out on top and we must continue like this.

“The road is too long, we must continue carrying out the coach’s instructions and I think at the end of the season we have a good chance.”
