OFFICIAL: Man United Completes First Signing Of January Transfer Window.

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Jack Butland on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The England international passed his medical on Thursday and put pen to paper on an initial six-month loan deal at Old Trafford as a new back-up goalkeeper, with no buy back option.

This comes after Newcastle United decided to recall Martin Dubravka from his loan spell at United. He had made two appearances for the Red Devils, both coming in the EFL Cup.

Butland has enough experience as a goalkeeper, playing extensively for Stoke City. He has played 87 games in the Premier League and has been capped nine times by England.

The 29-year-old travelled with the Three Lions to the 2018 World Cup in Russia where he served as a backup to Jordan Pickford.

On completing the loan move, Butland told the club's website: “This is an amazing club and one that I am now proud to represent. I’m really looking forward to working with an unbelievable goalkeeping group, supporting each other every day to create the best training and playing environment for the team.

"I’ve played against David De Gea and represented England alongside Tom Heaton; they are top-class keepers, and I am relishing the opportunity to compete alongside and support them as team-mates.

“There is a lot that this group can achieve this season and I’m excited to play my part in helping everyone to reach these ambitions.”

The FA Cup tie against Everton on Friday is likely to be too soon for him to make his first appearance, so he could wait until United face Charlton in the EFL quarter-final game on Tuesday night, January 10.
