Man United Cruise To Victory Against Everton, And Are Into The Fourth Round Of The FA Cup.

Manchester United cruised to a seventh straight wins in all competitions, after beating Everton in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday night.

The Red Devils continued their momentum into 2023 following a comfortable 3-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Tuesday, while Everton suffered a 4-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on the same night

Erik ten Hag's men have lost just once in all competitions since the start of October, while they have won all four of their games since returning to action following the World Cup, scoring nine times in the process and keeping four clean sheets.

The Toffees have already lost to the Red Devils this season, suffering a 2-1 home defeat in the Premier League on October 9, but they have drawn their last three fixtures at Old Trafford.

It only took four minutes into the encounter at Old Trafford for Antony to get the opener, as he slides home a simple finish at the far post after a surging run and cross from Marcus Rashford.

Everton levelled back the scoreline after a corner but they keep hold of the ball and Onana picks up the ball on the edge of the box and sends it towards the near post. 

Coady seemingly out of nowhere arrives in front of David de Gea to tap in from close range in disbelief in the 14th minute, it was a terrible goalkeeping from the Spaniard.

 After the return of the half, it was an unpleasant situation to see, with Iwobi being stretched off in pains in the 51st minute after a challenge from Malacia. 

It was a great tackle from the left-back, just an awkward landing for the Nigerian man. 

Coady then scored at both ends, after putting the ball in his own net through another fine run and excellent cross again from Rashford on the wing to restore United lead 2-1.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin who was brought on in the 69th minute thought he had equalised for the Toffees in the 74th minute after netting home from close range after a brilliant flick, run and cross from Gray. Everton celebrate, but their joy was short-lived as VAR intervenes and rules it out for a tight offside against Gray.

It goes from bad to worse for Frank Lampard's men after Garnacho races into the area and was brought down by Godfrey to give United a penalty.

Rashford then wrapped a fine display by converting a clinical spot kick in the 90+7 minute, sealing a place in forth round for United.

Having been knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round last season by Middlesbrough, Man United are the second-most successful side in the history of the competition, lifting the trophy 12 times, with their most recent win in the competition coming in the 2015/16 season.

As the Dutchman ten Hag, continues to bid in securing a silverware in his first season at the helm, United have also progressed nicely in the League Cup this season and will welcome Charlton Athletic to Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

They will host Man City in the Premier League on January 14, and will then travel to play current league leaders Arsenal, with this month set to be key for the club in terms of their ambitions for the season.

Everton, meanwhile, are five-time winners of the FA Cup, last winning the trophy in 1995, when they recorded a 1-0 victory over Man United in the final.

Frank Lampard's position as head coach continues to be called into question, but the 44-year-old remains in the role for now, as  he prepares take on Southampton and West Ham United in their next two Premier League matches, which are huge fixtures considering the position of both teams, before opening February at home to Arsenal.
