Asisat Oshoala Finally Awarded With The Pichichi Trophy Alongside Geyse Ferreira.

Asisat Oshoala has officially received her Pichichi award for finishing the 2021-22 Spain Primera Division Women League season as highest goal scorer with 20 goals.

Oshoala finishes the season as Liga pichichi and top scorer for her team with 20 goals, and three assists in 19 appearances, becoming the first African and Nigerian woman to end as top scorer.

The five-time African Women's Footballer of the year adds yet another personal accolade to her cabinet, despite not always being the first-choice at centre-forward and also had her season hampered by injury, missing out of action for more than two months.

Speaking on the achievement in May, Oshoala in an interview told the BBC that the top scorer was a team effort.

"It's obviously been a team effort to get here, and l can only thank my team-mates and everyone at the club for this achievement... The 28-year-old said, 

"We've been working hard all season and cannot stop now because we have another big one ahead of us."

With her win, Oshoala becomes the third Barcelona player after Sonia Bermúdez and Jennifer Hermoso to claim the award since its inception in 2005.

Oshoala’s teammates Lieke Martens and Alexia Putellas, finished the season with 17 goals.

The Super Falcons star shared the award with fellow joint top scorer Brazilian striker, Geyse Ferreira as they both scored 20 goals in the 2021/2022 Primera Liga Iberdrola season.

Ferreira featured in eight more games than Oshoala, as she was vital in her teams survival in the Primera Division.

The 24-year-old almost scored all of Madrid CFF's goals, that without her presence, her club would be in real danger of finishing in the bottom two.

Ferreira finally went on to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona in June, which will keep her with the Blaugrana side until June 30, 2024.

The signing of Geyse Ferreira will add some extra firepower to the Spanish champions as they look to continue their dominant run of form.

Oshoala on the other hand joined Barcelona Femeni from Chinese outfit Dalian Quanjian on loan in January 2019. The move was made permanent five months later.

The former Rivers Angels, Liverpool and Arsenal player, whose contract is until the end of the 2023-24 campaign, has scored 81 goals in 104 appearances for the Barca Ladies.

In August of this year, Oshoala became the first African woman to be nominated for the female Ballon d’Or award.

Barcelona Femení finished the 2021-22 season with 30 wins from 30 games, no loss, no draw, an unprecedented achievement in league history.

They won the domestic treble with a 100% win rate in 36 matches across all domestic competitions (league, cup, super cup), scoring 183 goals and conceding only 13 goals with a goal difference of +170.
