Pele Rushed To Hospital In Sao Paulo, with Brazil legend's Health Failing.

Football legend Pelé has been hospitalised in Sao Paulo with his condition described as 'worsening' amid his ongoing battle with cancer.

The former Brazil footballer was reportedly rushed to the medical facility in São Paulo after suffering “swelling” over his whole body and doctors have described his condition as “decompensated heart failure”.

According to ESPN Brasil, doctors are concerned for the 82 year-old’s health as he is suffering “mental confusion”.

Doctors discovered that Pele had colon cancer last September while going for a series of routine examinations that had been postponed for 15 months because of the coronavirus pandemic. He was hospitalised for a month following his diagnosis as he underwent surgery.

Pele has since received treatment that has included chemotherapy sessions, as well as monthly tests to check the effectiveness of tackling the tumour. He also spent two weeks in hospital in February for a urinary tract infection that complicated his treatment.

In April this year, he was given good news as doctors saw him being “stable and in good conditions”. Unfortunately, his fight is continuing as it looks as his health has taken another downward turn.

The former Santos and Brazil national star was also in the hospital to have a kidney stone removed in 2019 and in 2014 for another urinary tract infection. 

 

He is currently under the care of specialised doctors as they look to stabilise his condition. The 3-time World Cup winner’s family are “worried” for his health. 

Highly regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Pelé is Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer with 77 goals in 92 games. He is also the top scorer of former team Santos, with 643 goals in 659 games.
