"Long Live Senegal"... Sadio Mane Shares Emotional Message After World Cup Injury Heartbreak.

Senegal's star man has finally broken his silence since it was confirmed that he would not take part of his country's squad going into the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to injury.

The Bayern Munich's striker had suffered a knee injury in his side’s 6-1 victory over Werder Bremen earlier this month.

Despite the injury, Mane was included in coach Aliou Cisse's the 26-man squad to represent the Teranga Lions at the World Cup in Qatar.

He was expected to lead the Senegalese attack, but having totally failed to recover on time from the injury, the 30-year-old was entirely ruled out of the tournament in what was a cruel blow to the African giants.

Speaking on the development, Mane, thanked God that the operation he underwent was successful, as he wrote in a post via his social media handle;

"Good evening everyone, many of you have sent messages of support following my injury. Thank God, the surgery I had in the middle of the week went well. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all and show my appreciation.

He also shared his thoughts on Senegal's chances at the World Cup in Qatar, and according to him, there is still hope for Senegal to do well despite his injury;

"This Monday, our dear country will compete in the World Cup, Qatar 2022. I am sure that the Lions will transcend themselves and will approach all matches as a real final... He said

"I am also convinced that all Senegalese will be in front of the small screen to support and encourage our valiant national team.

"Like all fans of the Lair, I am convinced that my teammates will fight as one man and as they usually do in order to honor our dear 🇸🇳. Long live Senegal, Come on."

The former Liverpool man had a sensational 2021/22 season with the Reds, scoring 23 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions. He was part of Jurgen Klopp's squad that won the FA Cup and advanced to the Champions League final where they eventually lose to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

He played a key role in Senegal triumph at the 2021 AFCON earlier this year, and also saw his country secure qualification to the World Cup.

Mane ended his six-years stay at Anfield when he moved from the Premier League outfit Liverpool to join German side Bayern Munich.

The two-time African player of the year, finished in second place in the Ballon d'Or ranking last month, losing the 2022 men's award to France striker Karim Benzema.

Mane is Senegal's all-time top goalscorer (34 goals in 96 caps) and was involved in 12 of the last 25 goals scored by Senegalese players in AFCON and the World Cup (9 goals, 3 assists).

The reigning African champions, will kick off their World Cup campaign on Monday against European side Netherlands in Group A, and then take on hosts Qatar on Friday, before rounding up their group game against Ecuador.
