Inaki Williams, Partey, Ayew Brothers Lead Ghana's 26-Man Squad For The 2022 FIFA World Cup In Qatar.

The Black Stars of Ghana have released their 26-man squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana’s national team head coach Otto Addo announced the squad on Monday.

Missing from the list of players to represent the West African nation at the mundial is first-choice goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott who suffered a finger injury in Charlton Athletic's warm-up for their final club game before the tournament against Burton Albion in the League One on Saturday which they drew 3-3.

Addo has also left out Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp and exciting Cremonese forward Felix Afena-Gyan, while midfielders Mubarak Wakaso, Joseph Paintsil and Idrissu Baba are the other significant names omitted from the squad.

While headlining the list are Atletico Bilbao’s Inaki Williams who switched allegiance from Spain to Ghana, and made his debut for the Black Stars in a friendly defeat by Brazil in September.

 

Arsenal's midfielder Thomas Partey who scored the winning goal against The Super Eagles of Nigeria in the World Cup play-off against Nigeria in March, is among five Premier League players included by coach Otto Addo.

Brighton wing-back Tariq Lamptey, Leicester City centre-back Daniel Amartey, Southampton defender Mohamed Salisu and Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew will also travel with the squad to the finals.

Captain Andre Ayew is also in line to feature at his third World Cup finals.

Uncapped forward Kamal Sowah makes the squad after impressing for Club Bruges as the Belgian club reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

Ghana will play Switzerland in a build-up match in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, before heading to Qatar for the World Cup.

They are the lowest-ranked team at the tournament and will face Portugal in the Group H opener on Thursday, 24 November, before facing South Korea and Uruguay in same heated group.

The West Africans reached the quarter-finals in 2010, when beaten by Uruguay on penalties in a controversial tie, and suffered an early exit in Brazil 2014 prior to missing out altogether for the 2018 finals in Russia.
