Chelsea's Full-Back Reece James Reacts To Missing Out Of The England's Squad For The The 2022 World Cup In Qatar.

Chelsea Right-Back Reece James will miss the World Cup in Qatar because of injury.

Having held discussions with England boss Gareth Southgate on Tuesday, it was decided that James has not recovered sufficiently from the knee injury he picked up against AC Milan in the Champions League last month.

He had collided with Theo Hernandez during Chelsea's victory at the San Siro in the Champions League, James was hit with an eight-week injury layoff following a knee injury. Blues boss Graham Potter confirmed that the full-back was back jogging with the group on Tuesday, but Southgate won't be risking him in Qatar, and has opted to omit the defender from his 26-man that will be announced on Thursday.

James, who was aiming for England’s first-choice right-back, said that immediately after he sustained that injury he knew it would be difficult to recover and be part of the England squad.

Southgate has opted for Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker for the right-back position.

The 22-year-old has confirmed his omission from Southgate's plans in an emotional statement on his official Twitter account, which reads: 

''Devastated. The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible. I've worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and I truly believed I could help the team. 

"I appreciate there was risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take.

England kick-off their 2022 World Cup campaign in Group B against Iran on Monday, November 21.

The Three Lions, who reached last summer’s Euro 2020 final, would then face United States (November 25) and Wales (November 29).

They have been Considered one of the pre-tournament favourites, despite their unconvincing form throughout 2022 so far, England will be expected to finish top of their Group.

A possible Round of 16 tie against the runners-up of Group A, which comprises the host Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal and Netherlands awaits them afterwards.

James could make a return to action when the Blues Premier League campaign resumes on December 27 against Bournemouth.
