Taiwo Awoniyi Only Goal Inspires Nottingham Forest To A Win Against Liverpool.

Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi emerge hero of the day, as his only goal secures all massive three points for Nottingham Forest against his former team Liverpool at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds were looking to make it three consecutive Premier League wins after 1-0 home victories over Manchester City and then West Ham in mid-week.

Having lost narrowly to Wolves last weekend, Steven Cooper's side continued their newfound defensive resilience at the Amex on Tuesday, holding Brighton to a 0-0 draw on the South Coast.

Liverpool were without the firepower of the injured Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz and it showed as they lacked the spark needed to unlock a deep-lying Forest defence. 

The first half ended without a goal with Liverpool dominating much of the ball, against a Nottingham Forest side who have gone eight games in the top flight without a win.

In the 55th minute of the game, the breakthrough came for Forest, as Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi shot off a fierce cross from the right hits the post but tucks home the rebound from six yards.

Jurgen Klopp's men have now already lost more league games in the first 11 matches than in the whole of last season when they lost out on the title to Man City by just a point.

They are yet to win a single away game this season, and now suffering a third league defeat of the season Liverpool are in seventh, 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal having played a game more. 

Meanwhile, Awoniyi was a former Liverpool player for seven years, but never made a single appearance for them.

He signed for Liverpool at 18-years old in 2015, and was sent out on loan 7 times in 6 seasons to clubs in Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium, and never played a single minute at the club before being sold last season to Union Berlin, who then sold him to Forest in the summer for £17m.

He chose not to celebrate his goal today in his first game against his former side Liverpool out of respect.

But a great scenes of celebration followed after the final whistle as Forest are off the bottom of the Premier League table.
