Reece James Becomes The Highest Paid Defender In Premier League, As He Extends Contract
Reece James and Chelsea have officially reached an agreement on a new, long-term contract.
The academy product has made a name for himself as one of the top right wingbacks in the world of football since getting the chance to play for the first team under Frank Lampard.
James has made a total of 128 appearances throughout all competitions, contributing 10 goals and 20 assists, including 22 goals from 87 Premier League games.
James has had such an influence at Stamford Bridge that teams like Manchester City and Real Madrid have become ardent fans.
Chelsea's domestic and European competitors would have probably thought about making a formal offer since the England international is expected to have two years left on his contract at the conclusion of this season.
Speaking to the club's official website, James said: "I am over the moon with my new contract and I'm thankful for the fans, the new ownership and everyone involved in the club. I cannot wait to see what the future holds, and I am sure we will have the chance of winning many trophies.
"I grew up supporting this club and I've been here since I was a six-year-old. I put pen to paper on a new deal because this is the club I want to be at. I'd like to say a special thanks to the fans, I am here to stay and we have a bright future ahead of us."
