Erling Haaland Shines As Man City Come From Behind To Beats Borussia Dortmund In UCL Clash.

At the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City overcame Borussia Dortmund 2-1 thanks to a wild goal from Erling Haaland against his former team.

When Jude Bellingham gave Dortmund the lead 11 minutes into the second half, it appeared as though Pep Guardiola's team would lose in the Champions League, but aftet a triple substitution, City awoke from their slumber and two goals in four minutes turned the game around.

 John Stones drew a late equalizer from a distance, and then Haaland scored the game-winning cushioned volley.

Stones' shot in the 80th minute was Man City's first on target of the game; however, with Haaland on the team, there is always that threat. Man City had played below par for much of the game. With a win, they remain in first place in Group G with a perfect record. 

Once Guardiola sent for his replacements, Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Bernardo Silva were all inserted, and suddenly Haaland was in the game, the game began to open up. Guardiola will be sorely let down by the lack of effort prior to it, though.

The Norwegian had been kept remarkably quiet, but only needed the slighted glimpse of goal to extend his scoring streak to six games as his telescopic left leg prodded home the winner six minutes from time.

Haaland has now scored 13 goals in his first eight competitive games for City since they met his bargain £51 million ($58 million) buyout clause from the German giants.

Being behind in front of their own supporters has become an unwanted habit for City, who famously came from behind to beat Aston Villa here on the last day of the previous season and to come from behind once more recently to defeat Crystal Palace.

"We had a lot of problems to get our rhythm," said Guardiola after the comeback win.

"We were so passive in our transitions. We struggled. We played in the wrong gear. When we realised we were 1-0 down and changed the dynamic on the field [by making three substitutions], it gave us another rhythm. This is who we are.

"After Sevilla, people said it was all over, it was done. I tried telling them it is not done. The Champions League does not wait. The Champions League does not forgive you.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola says there a similarities between Erling Haaland and Zlatan Ibrahimović's finishing abilities, and  that Haaland goal, reminded him of the famous 'impossible goal' Cruyff scored almost half a century ago against Atlético Madrid (1973). He referenced another former Barcelona player too.

"I remember my dear friend Ibrahimovic had this ability to put the ball from the roof. He is elastic, he is flexible. He has that ability to make the contact and find the net."
