Arsenal Midfielder Ethan Nwaneri Becomes The Youngest Player To Play In The Premier League.

Ethan Chidiebere Nwaneri becomes the youngest player to make his debut in Premier League history.

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott previously held that record (16 years and 30 days) when he made his Premier League debut for Fulham in May 2019.

The Nigeria eligible teenage creative midfielder had surprisingly been named in the Gunners Premier League squad to face Brentford on Sunday, beating Jack Wilshere’s record of being Arsenal’s youngest ever Premier League player at 16 years and 256 days.

Born in March 2007, a full year after Arsenal had moved to the Emirates Stadium, he is 15-years and 180 days old, and was promoted to the Arsenal first team this week after impressing with the U-18s and U-21s.

He made headlines last year when he scored on his debut for the U-18s as a 14-year-old.

Nwaneri has clearly impressed boss Mikel Arteta in his performances for the under-21s side, scoring four times and assisted four for the U-21s and U-18s so far this season, which earned him a place on the bench at the Brentford Community Stadium, after an injury to captain Martin Odegaard.

He was further subbed on by Arteta to make a dream debut, when he replaced Arsenal's third goalscorer Fabio Vieira following first half strikes from William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus, with the Gunners claiming all three points and returned to the top of the Premier League.

He is seen to be a player with a huge future at the Emirates Stadium and has been handed the number 83 shirt.

Nwaneri who is born of Nigerian parents,  currently represents the England U-16s and has also made one cap with the U-17s but he is eligible to play for Nigeria.

Arsenal boss Arteta explained his reasoning for picking Nwaneri; "It was a pure gut feeling," Arteta said. "I met the boy. I really liked what I saw. Per [Mertesacker] in the academy was giving me good feelings. He's trained with us a couple of times and then I had the feeling from yesterday that if the opportunity could come I was going to do it."
