OFFICIAL: Man City Completes The Signing Of Sergio Gomez From Anderlecht.
Manchester City have completed the signing of Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht.
City agreed a £11m (€13m) deal plus add-ons with Anderlecht to sign Gomez last week, and the 21-year-old has now completed a medical and signed a four-year deal with the Premier League champions.
It was initially thought Gomez would have been loaned out to sister club Girona in the Spanish top-flight once the transfer was completed, but City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed he will stay the Etihad this season and compete for the left-back position in the first team, following the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal in a £32m deal.
The Ukrainian's departure has left Joao Cancelo as the only senior specialist in the position, with youngster Josh Wilson-Esbrand another only option.
Gomez will wear the number 21 shirt for the club, a number last worn by Ferran Torres but more famously used by club legend David Silva.
He came through the Barcelona academy before playing under former City captain Vincent Kompany at the Belgian club.
"To be part of this club is a dream come true and something any young player would aspire to," said Gomez.
"I'm very happy that Manchester City is giving me the opportunity and I'm going to try to give my best on the pitch. Hopefully, we can achieve great things together."

City turned their attention to sign Gomez, after failing to agree on a deal with Brighton to sign Marc Cucurella, who ultimately joined Chelsea.
City director of football Txiki Begiristain added: "Sergio's development in recent seasons has been very impressive - he is an accomplished defender with great potential.
"We're sure that he will bring additional quality to our squad both in defence and going forward and that he will only continue to develop and improve playing under Pep and his coaches."
