Man United Considers Back-Up Options Amid Frenkie de Jong Uncertainty.

Manchester United are reportedly considering back-up options, if they fail in their pursuit to sign Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is said to be options who are on the club’s radar.

According to Sky Sports, United have a long-standing interest in Ruben Neves, despite Wolves boss Bruno Lage placing a £100m price tag on the Portuguese International last April.

Neves who joined Wolves from FC Porto in 2017, has made 212 appearances for Wolves, scoring 24 times and creating 12 assists.

He is under contract at Wolves until 2024, was in tears at the end of the club's final home game of last season, suggesting that his time at Molineux could be heading towards its conclusion. And he later admitted he could leave.

Frenkie de Jong remains Manchester United’s top midfield transfer target, but the attempts to sign him have dragged on for three months without a resolution yet. At some stage United need to be ready to pivot to alternatives.

United boss Erik ten Hag has worked with De Jong previously at Ajax, and made him the club’s number one target upon his hiring.

Sources claims that United have made a breakthrough in negotiations to sign De Jong as they have agreed to pay the £17m that the midfielder is owed by Barcelona in deferred wages. It's also recently been claimed that Chelsea are now in 'direct talks' with Barcelona to sign the midfielder.

Barca are allegedly prepared to cash in on the Dutchman due to their financial predicament, although the player has expressed on several occasions that he has no intentions of leaving Camp Nou.

Man United are also believed to be keeping tabs on Leicester City's Youri Tielemans, who could be available for around £30m this summer as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract.
