Man City Held Newcastle United In An Exciting 6-goal Thrilling Encounter At St. James' Park.

In a six-goal thrilling encounter at St. James'Park, Silva was the savior of Manchester City as the Premier League champions battled back to earn a 3-3 draw.

Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland pulled the champions back from two goals down; Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier had earlier scored after Ilkay Gundogan's opener.

Silva, who made his first league start of the year, made sure the game, which saw the visitors take an early lead then fall behind 3-1 nine minutes into the second half, ended 3-3.

Prior to kickoff, neither team had given up a goal in the top division this year, City had won 27 of their previous 28 games when scoring first, so when Ilkay Gundogan burst the home team's bubble in the first five minutes, it seemed like the end was near.

However, inspired by the individual brilliance of Allan Saint-Maximin, Eddie Howe's men felt that attacking was the best form of defending, and after Miguel Almiron had drawn even, Wilson and Trippier scored.

When the midfielder was given the time and space to send a cross in the fifth minute for Gundogan to handle and fire beyond the defenseless Pope, Silva and Haaland had already combined menacingly to enable Rodri to whistle a long-range strike over Pope's crossbar.

The visitors were utterly dominant, forcing the Magpies goalkeeper to make two quick saves with his legs from Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden. However, the home team should have equalized when Saint-Maximin fed the ball back to Almiron, who skied his shot high over.

Trippier's afternoon appeared to take a serious turn for the worse when Jarred Gillett, the referee, issued a red card for his cynical trip on De Bruyne. However, the official was instructed to review the incident and duly reduced the punishment to a yellow.

With 12 minutes left, Haaland had a chance to win it, but he missed as the home crowd held its collective breath. Although the visitors had a stronger finish, they ultimately had to settle for a point.

The reigning Premier League champions keep their unbeaten start to the new season in tact but they have lost top spot as Arsenal are the only team to still have a perfect record 100% record after three matches.

"We could have lost today," the City boss told Sky Sports. "Three goals is good in a difficult away game. Newcastle is becoming one of the most difficult opponents, for sure.

"Look at today, Leeds beat Chelsea so the Premier League is so difficult for everyone. We don’t need to live this experience to realise how amazing we’ve been in the last five years.  [Allan] Saint-Maximin, his aggression with the ball is so difficult to defend. He’s an excellent player, Kyle Walker did an incredible job.

"I know how difficult it is and that’s why we needed to run more than usual. If you review the chances we had to score more goals, we were excellent."
